I'm an American who listens to aussie radio online and I happened to hear some of Johnny O'Keefe on Keith McGowan's radio program on 3AW overnighter program this morning. I had to do a search on Google for Johnny and learn more about him and his life. I loved the music played on the radio. It was cool learning about Johnny.

Australian stars of the 50's are very under-rated and increasingly forgotten. Vrey sad that more is not available on DVD and CD etc

I first saw Johnny at Cloudland supporting Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis - and actually compering the show. This was in his sideburn, kiss-curl days. I saw him later at Festival Hall, in a tent show at the Brisbane exhibition and at many league clubs and pubs. No matter how big or small the audience he always gave it everything he had. He was the living essence of rock'n'roll - ther is no other way to describe it: He was its personificaion; and he would drive audiences into an absolute frenzy. I think I have everything he ever recorded, but it is a shame that a lot of vinyl material is not now available on CD. Also there is much in private hands that has not been released - although UTUBE is a good site for seeing many old TV performances never previously released. I shook Johnny's hand a couple of times - once at the first telethon ever held in Brisbane on Channel Nine and once at the Whisky a Go-Go night club the weekend before it was firebombed.

Lonnie Lee, Cole Joye, Little Pattie, Noelene Batteley (prob spelt wrong, sorry) Robe G all the stars who appeared on the TV shows. I can't remember them all - I was pretty young. My parents had a cafe in Ararat and I used to run up the stairs just to watch the show. Still LOVE Johnny!

Not really, none of them came close to Johnny as far as entertaining goes but I wish all the survivors the best.

I saw Johnny every year he came to Perth, went with my family. He is the best performer I have ever seen, so energetic and passionate about everything he did. I also met him once, it was my 21st birthday and my parents had taken me to see him at a night club. It was a surprise they laid on me at the last minute. When I met him I was so stunned I couldn't say a word...very embarrassing. But he had such a strong presence, it simply took your breath away. I remember he was dressed all in white from head to toe and was absolutely charming and polite.
I wish someone would come up with a DVD of one of his shows in its entirety...would be wonderful to see!

i got curious about Johnny O Keefe and bought some cds and realized who he is im into johnny Cash and find Cash an inferior entertainer to JOK but im still learning about JOK. Ive never liked Elvis but thats personal taste i like Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones and Aussie Band The Angels and Doc Neesons Angels. i find Doc Neeson very similiar to JOK as an entertainer oh and i saw Col Joye in a show years ago
