Gone but not forgotten... Frances, it has been 38 years now since you've left us. I'm remembering you today. Thanks for the memories.

And to the creator/s of this site, and to all the contributors, thanks for sharing.

A very beautiful and talented woman who only wanted to be known and appreciated for her talent as an actress rather than for her body or looks.
Her views on life were her own and should have been left at that and not have been
a source of contention by others.

What do Frances Farmer & Britney Spears have in common? A psych ward. That's about it.

If only Frances could have gotten the kind of treatment Brit has been getting -- coming & going as she pleases, no 90 insulin-shock therapies or ice baths or electroshock therapies or medieval insane asylum.

Back in the '40s, it seems you had to be strong enough emotionally to get thru your "treatment" for any mental illness and/or emotional disturbance you might have (or not have).

Frances would have been better off if she could have enlisted to fight the Japanese and/or the Nazis.

Most Frances Farmer aficionados don't come here much anymore -- what's the point? -- but the spirit of Frances will live forever -- intelligent, rebellious, confrontational, compassionate, spiritual, indestructible, all-round beautiful. I hope the site continues on. It's coming up on its 10th anniversary now, David Kortegast having established it on April 9, 1998. Thank you, David, for this great tribute to a great woman and American artist, who unfortunately got too brief a chance to shine. But shine she did, and brilliantly.

My cousin & I oldest EA R 4ever watching movies, many yrs ago he presented the idea of FF and her sad book & story. I took the book with a great deal of seriousness about the reading of it. Very shortly after I started and without stopping ready it cover to cover. With FF on my shoulder helping me understand I fealt.. With or without HELP by her friend of which I believe she fealt she did not deserve this nook is TRUE (ever B a mourning) . A peace someHOW by the grace of GOD came 2her. FROM hell she was redeemed, however U cut the cake SHE suffered. Under a HUGE weight of religion brought on by humans not GOD, she lost faith over her FOUND hat , when she prayed & yet her school friends parental loss angered her of GOD, soherein she rejected the idea & blessing.

UNder the order of a court she became a ward of her parents as an ADULT & into hell she was sent , withOUT recourse 4 life. Her guardian the STATE, experimented w/ ICEpicks & guards PIMPed her out as a freak SHOW. The health needs of her parents set her FREE.

Aunty Frances must B kissed before I go & the voice of GOD came back into her heart. A tragic story with redemption attached. I always say LIFE comes w/ a death sentence, it's fatal. I was and still AM very moved by her life. THX for the picture of Saint Frances

Frances Farmer, was a person that Hollywood did not prepare for, and she was resented
for her obvious talent and eventual ousting
from Hollywood.

Hopefully there's an after life, and if there
is Frances is doing what she wants, not the other way around.

Frances had a chemistry beyond her looks and talent that went into her thoughts on society,
and her writings from a number of different
perspectives on society.

To get one of Frances Farmer's videos, just go to amazon.com.

Thank you everyone for their kind comments on Frances.

Yep, the similarity crossed my mind too, Rich. But Paris is far more immature and fragile psychologically than Frances ever was.

Frances' independent and fighting spirit never left her, as we know. She threw an inkwell at the judge and fought the guards. Paris cried, screamed for her mommy and went passively to her confinement like a good girl.

Entirely different personalities. Paris is a wimp who can't do plush time; Frances was a straight-up biatch who did years of hard time in her various incarcerations and never broke.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find today's Paris Hilton episode--where she was ordered back to jail and was escorted out of the court room in tears--evocative of Frances' own court room drama with Judge Frater?

Please know that I in NO way equate the Poor Little Rich Girl's traumatic experience today to Frances' hell at the hands of the law, but the parallel of another pretty blonde whose fate lay in the hands of the law resonated with me. Again, merely an observation.

Some of the greatest people of history were mentally unstable (if you want names, I can Google for them). What's objectionable is the way the mentally ill of Frances' day, and prior, were treated. From what I've read, racism had nothing to do w/ it; that's just the way they were treated at that time. Even today, the mentally ill are shunned by us sane folks, though the treatment methods are vastly improved. Psychologically, Frances was likely no more mentally ill that Lindsay Lohan, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Robin Williams, Glen Campbell, etc., etc., are today. Had she not been confrontational & outspoken, she probably would have had no trouble. She was not one to go along just to get along, & she paid dearly for it.

Danielle, are you ok? That posting was ridiculous as best. Its crystal clear to anyone that FF was not the pillar of mental stability. Her reactions to everyday situations was far from normal. I think its interesting that people think that just because someone has looks and talent that they cannot possibly have a mental disorder. And whats up with this whole race thing???

It's obvious that Frances Farmer was a beautiful, normal & intelligent woman. The people who tortured her ( & still proclaim her supposed "insanity") are blatantly jealous of beauty & race. White people are increasingly rare, & it's no surprise that today's ethnic minorities will still try to taint her memory. She should be beloved, for bringing so much attention to the quackery of the psychiarty profession. That is her enduring legacy. If there is a Heaven, no doubt she is the most beautiful angel! It seems that our society deems geniuses, beautiful people ( & white people ) all alike, as being "mentally ill". It is a cultural loss, & a devastation to international humanity. We'll never see people as beautiful & charismatic ever again. I hope the is a Hell for those in the psychiatry profession, as well as those who slander the decent people who are no longer alive to defend themselves! This subject is close to my heart, as both a witness to brutal injustices, & a comparable victim to what Frances herself endured. It is a sick society that enjoys the destruction of other people! The idiots who call her a "nutcase" are the REAL NUTCASES!I hope they enjoy their stay in Hell with Hitler, & all of the mad docs who do experiments. Cheers to those who devote sites to exposing crimes, & to doing tributes to their victims. Good work! Sincere Regards...Danielle S.

I would like to take the Dr. Freeman AND that Mother from Hell and give THEM lobotomies, and see how they like it. Even if only 50% of what happened to that poor girl is true (and I believe a lot of what was in the 1978 biography was false) it's still a disgrace. I really blame that Mother, what a swine she was.
