Re: Thin Red Line

I think His Majestys Royal Marines teh Invalid Battalion and teh Sultans Turks would disagree.
PLus teh Czars Uhlans on teh flank.

Re: Re: Thin Red Line

Alright, so we need 4 more mini-sets ;-)

Re: Re: Re: red jacket marines

Jan yes any of thes e would be great .The Uhlans we have and the highlandmen .

Would Light Infantry in kilmarnoks be used as Red jacket marines?

Re: Re: Re: Re: red jacket marines

Hi Hank,

Marines had the same uniform as the line, so where is the problem? The invalids were a mixture of troopers from different regiments who were in Balaclav. That makes the line much more colourful.

What Russian Lancers do you mean? As far as I know some Cossacks were on the flanks of the Hussars.

cheers
Uwe

Nice painting but not acurrate

Like so many paintings of the era two considerations over ruled accuracy.
One was glamour, i.e. the painting had to look good.
The other consideration was political incorrectness, i.e. what was good for the political image.
hence there are no Turks in the painting. After all they were potrayed as cowards that had just lost the guns.
The fact that the Turks had been under ferocious attack for more than two hours before the British high Command had even got up for breakfast.
Just like Hank I am counting on Strelets to address the misconception and produce plenty of Turks for the
Balaklava action

Re: Nice painting but not acurrate

Almost hidden in the transcripts ,Before the Turks ran away Lord Scarlet ran away with his Heavy Cav Squadron escort.Teh Turks thought they were alone. The english gave the turks teh wrong ammunition for the guns also. The english wanted to eat toast and boiled eggs breakfast . Guess it was a true case of "Oh hard cheddar Johnny Turk."
