Re: Vikings

Thanks for sharing Yevgen. These look fantastic!

Re: Re: Vikings

Yes they do look fantastic and I will have to have some. However, the way things are going I'm never going to be able to move to another period as as soon as I have finished painting someone brings out another lovely set. I have the same problem with Celts - you can never get enough variation in a barbarian army so it is impossible to resist new figures. Nice to see Zvezda have realised that we like warriors who are usig their shields to protect themselves and not waving them around like some sort of ornamment! I think Strelets can take the credit for giving that little lesson.

Re: Re: Re: Vikings

The best vikings until now, definetely.

I will not mind if they are as big as janissaries!!They are VIKINGS!!!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Vikings

I'm a bit bemused by the guy with his right leg raised: unless he's doing the hokey-cokey, he appears to be inspired by the Osprey illustration of an instructor testing the shield wall, and looks a bit silly out of context...???
Still - splendid looking set! Now where's that Emhar longship?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Vikings

Thank you YEVGEN for sharing this wonderful pics
Realy they are FANTASTIC!!!
Right the best VIKINGS ever made!!
Those ZVEZDA guys are astonishing me once again with their TOP quality figures.
I like to discover new figures but you know with some companies you feel like if the designer has a contract for a determined number of poses. Some are good some other are flat and lack inspiration.
Here with the ZVEZDA guys, every pose is clever as well as full of life
Those VIKINGS are GREAT indeed!!!
Who will they be opposed to?
Anglo-Saxon or 9-10th Century French northern Knights, or whoever?
If any one has a clue about the subject, PLEASE share!!
Maybe YEVGEN knows?

Moreover I will use them too with my new superb mini STRELETS Saxons for Hastings.
I will use some of them as Huscarls and some others as Fyrds
And now I finally know who will be my King Harold (changing his round shield for a STRELETS kite one) and I know too who will be his standard bearer.
Last question when can we expect this latest ZVEZDA's Masterpiece here in Paris?
Thank you YEVGEN
Best regards
Pat

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Vikings

For saxon army, the standard bearer should wear the Wessex red Dragon standard.. by the way, any hint about viking standards??????

I will play the battle of Stamford Bridge.. it seems more wild, saxon Vs viking: axes, beards, chainmail and no one on horse!! There are now plenty of saxon and viking sets for this!! Franks, Dacians and Goths can join the party

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Vikings

I think I'm gonna play Stamford bridge as well once I get Zvezda's vikings. It's just too tempting.

I'm sure glad the color matches Strelets' latest Viking set. The poses of the 2 sets are complimentary to each other. I hope the size of the figures will be similar as well.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Vikings

Carlos is right about the standard.
I forgot to say I will scratch-build the Standard with one of those very good Vikings from ROFUR FLAGS. Those ROFUR FLAGS are great indeed and very helpful:
http://www.rofur-flags.de/
And there is a special one about Dark Ages
Nr. 1/72-154: 11./12. Jhdt. Normannenkriege / Hastings 1066.
This includes Harald HARDRADA Viking standard and the Dragon of Wessex for the 1066 battle of Hastings.
Best regards
Pat

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Vikings

Rofur flags has great products, and their conversions for standard bearers are inspiring.
For Hardrada's banner, though, you may want to go with something more like this-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raven_banner

If the Zvezda standard is engraved, a little knife work, and a photocopy of this image should work well.

I'm looking forward to this set for the many poses that are without chainmail (oops! left them with the ships). The javelin thrower and archers are also a plus. It looks like Stamford Bridge is becoming a possibility with Vikings from Strelets, Imex-Emhar, and now Zvezda.

Re: Vikings

These new Zvedza figures, along with the Emhar set (still one of my favorite sets), the forthcoming Emhar crew and longship will form a great viking warband.

this time miniart.

Re: Vikings

Where is the time I used my Airfix Ancient Britons as Vikings because no other figures could do the job...

Re: Re: Vikings

I used Airfix Roman archers as Goths, I admit it. Now I feel better.

Re: Re: Vikings

What exactly are "Housits"?

Re: Re: Re: Vikings

Housits are Religious Fanatics from Bohemia!
Look Wikipedia...!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hussite_Wars
They fights against the German King Sigismund in the Hussite Wars 1419-1436!
The Bohemians use War Wagons at first, includes in the Set of MiniArt...
