I really enjoy setting up command stands based on period paintings. I have lots 'in train' and planned, but have recently completed two of them.

Firstly, one representing the allied monarchs after Leipzig, based on Johann Peter Krafft's "Siegesmeldung nach der Schlacht bei Leipzig" (The Declaration of Victory After the Battle of Leipzig) and making use of lots of figures from Strelets' re-released 'Russian and Prussian Chiefs of Staff', as well as Francis I from the 'Allied Chiefs of Staff (2)'.





Another, based on Jean Léon Gérôme's Napoleon and his staff in Egypt






I bought the figure of Bonaparte on a camel back in 2019. I'll use the figure of Napoleon in the (eagerly awaited) Strelets 303—I have two of them coming—for others. Probably one based on a drawing by JOB of Bonaparte, Scholars & Artisans all mounted on camels and another based on the painting by Robert Alexander Hillingford of Bonaparte Arriving at an Egyptian Oasis.

These are three of the '23 Napoleons' that I have planned. The first, la morte de Napoleon, I completed in 2021 for the bicentenary of his death.



This one was based on 'Napoleon sur son lit de mort une heure avant son ensevelissement', by Jean-Baptiste Mauzaisse and used the figure from Napoleon's General Staff 2, a set that was re-issued last year (was it?) and, according to the latest list provided to me by the retailer in Adelaide, ex-Strelets, is marked as 'coming to an end' (in terms of availability). Seems I was not the only one who bought multiple boxes of it!

Love the dioramas James! I completely understand where you’re coming from. When I was imagining a command set I was thinking just more mounted officers, but a set like this with men pouring over maps, or some aide de camps, I could definitely get behind.
