The French, Russian, and Thin Red Line big boxes are the only ones I ever collected as well James, and similarly I used all of them for 1877 Russo Turkish War purposes. I will say though that I prefer the standard set size. While cool, with the big boxes you end up with a lot of something you don’t need if you purchase multiple. In the case of the Thin Red Line I only wanted the Ottomans and ended up with a load of Highlanders I didn’t need, and then with the “command” based theme of the other two sets I didn’t purchase multiple because I didn’t need loads of generals standing around. The only set I can think of that this didn’t apply to was the Borodino Set, and even in that case wouldn’t it be better to be able to just buy the four sets individually? That’s my personal thoughts on it. I have similar feelings about a dedicated WSS command set as well. I personally don’t see the need just because every set contains officers and men that could be used as generals. So far we’ve even seen literal representations of Villars and Vauban (in a recent preview) and other generals can be made easily by converting what’s available with a paint job. Especially if you’re trying to build up troop numbers, I don’t need an officer for every 40 infantrymen and every 10 cavalrymen. So all the extra command figures I’ve used to make specific individuals, and even then I have some laying around. Of course that is just my two cents.
Am I right in thinking that the Crimean Highlanders went out of production? That might suggest that there is still hope for anyone who is looking for some ...
We don't have plans for further Big Box sets at the moment. They aren't good sellers and usually production runs are rather limited (500-600 only), that's why they can be hard to find.
As to the WSS range, we believe, cavalry sets have plenty of mounted commanders and, all going well, we will support them with few dismounted ones as well but all as part of usual sets, for example:
Hopefully, it should be enough to fill the need for top officers.
Thanks for replying Yuri. I know that you have stated your 'position' on command boxes previously, but I wondered regarding the big boxes. Thanks for setting me straight there.
Those dismounted officers look like they will be an excellent addition to what you have already produced!
