Re: Question about Strelets STR301 Mounted Seminoles US Wild West—excitement about new releases

Arlin, your comment had me wondering and I found this:
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/event/annual-dade-battle-reenactment/
While a 're-enactment' with a handful of people doesn't really represent a battle, those 'living history' people don't tend to get important things like that wrong?

Strelets, I received an email from my 'supplier' yesterday and have put in my order for the French dragoons a charging and Napoleon a Egyptologying! :) Thanks heaps!

Best wishes, James

Re: Question about Strelets STR301 Mounted Seminoles US Wild West—excitement about new releases

Well they will be useful for the end of the battle like that. I guess we need US regulars. But even at the Dade massacre they laid in wait for the infantry and ambushed them from behind cover. I agree the reenactments are so helpful though. I refer to them for little reported things like what kind of wagons or artillery pieces and limbers used in little known battles like Dade or even battles like Fallen Timbers or Horseshoe Bend. I dig the little details. And I recognize tribes had horses, it’s just that, other than the Plains tribes, they were not apt to fight that way. Even at the Little Bighorn, most of the Indians fired on foot. Oh, and Strelets, I enjoyed the movie you sent, but please don’t use that as a reference for the US uniform, lol.

Re: Question about Strelets STR301 Mounted Seminoles US Wild West—excitement about new releases

Dear Arlin,

Thank you for the links.

We see your points, indeed, movies are of limited use as historical evidence, although they can spark initial interest to sertain subjects or disciplines. For example, our interest to history was initiated by "300 Spartans", irrespective of how historically incoorect it was.
In Russia we say in these cases: "an artist sees it this way" and his/her visions can be at times very bizarre ones:sunglasses:

That's how America was discovered, for example:

Anyway, the movie proved, that uniforms of ACW would have looked cool even 30 years before:slightly_smiling_face:.

On a serious note, as to the coverage of the frontiers history, of course, there's room for many sets and, all going well, we will give the subject proper treatment.

Best regards,

Strelets

I look forward to seeing the frontier series! And, like you, it was the movies that probably sparked my interest in history. I loved all those US Cavalry and Indians movies as a child. And oh how I wish those uniforms they had in those movies were how it was! And the glorious Sabre charges saving the wagon trains! And for me, they always will be!

P.S. It's Friday Again

Best regards,

Strelets

Re: P.S. It's Friday Again

Hmm some sort of southeast natives it looks like. Creek or Cherokee maybe? Love the variety of action poses though. Good looking set! Also very cool video. Definitely adds lots of inspiration for those Seminoles
