Medieval Battlefields Conference this weekend

For those of you who don't just buy the horse and musket figures but like the guys in suits of armour, then the UK's Battlefields Trust is running a whole day Zoom conference on medieval warfare this Saturday, 1st May. It is open to anyone (not just Battlefield Trust members) worldwide who wants to attend, for the princely sum of £25. The sessions are (UK time):

10:15: Dr Thom Richardson - Mail and Plate Armour.

11:15: Graham Evans - Battle of Edgcote 1469.

13:00: Panel Discussion - Dr Sophie Ambler, Dr Matt Bennett, Professor Anne Curry, Graham Evans discuss numbers on the medieval battlefield.

14:00: Dr Dan Spencer - Gunpowder Weapons in the Wars of the Roses

15:00: Mike Ingram - Battle of Northampton 1460

All the speakers are acknowledged experts in their field (plus me!). Sophie Ambler is doing excellent work on the 13th century Barons Wars, Anne Curry knows more than anyone about Agincourt, and Thom Richardson is THE expert on what's in the Royal Armouries (I've heard both Thom and Anne speak, and Mike Ingram too. All good. Matt Bennett is a medieval historian AND a figure collector/wargamer, so really focusses on what people like us are interested in).

Tickets are available through the Eventbright link on this page:http://www.battlefieldstrust.com/event.asp?EventID=1142

Re: Medieval Battlefields Conference this weekend

Cool! Yea that numbers conversation is always a bugger, but interesting none the less. Thanks for the link and good luck with the panel!

Re: Medieval Battlefields Conference this weekend

Thanks for the prompt Graham. This is probably a little too specialised for me to justify the price-tag, and I have other things pressing today, but it certainly sounds interesting. I hope it goes well.

Anne Curry was a young history tutor when I studied History at the University of Reading (in Berkshire, UK) back in the 1980s and I remember her quite well. She has gone on to become, as you say, the key authority on the battle of Agincourt and military matters around the end of the C14th/early C15th, and what a fine thing to specialise in.

Maybe some feedback after the event has happened? Do you know if any of the papers/talks will be published?
