Re: Ramon Family ( Trindad Ramon/ Tomasa Vasquez or Balque
Hello Michael,
It is nice to meet you via email. Thank you for sharing the family connection. Im dusting off my genalogy hat and getting back into it.
I agree there may be some historical event which prompted their move. It could also be a familial reason. All of the daughters seem to have gotten married with a year or two of each other. Tomassa seems to be unaccounted for on the census. One record shows Trindad and Gertrude cohabitating with another gentleman with another Ramon family living next door... another mystery to unreavel.Tomassa and the other daughters are not listed. I wonder if maybe Tomassa passed away. Trindad is left with duaghters in his care and he needed to ensure they would be taken care of so they married and settled in St Landry.
Side note: Trindad is listed as a soldier at the mission around 1817. I read that the sodliers often assisted in moving the cattle between Mexico, now Texas, and Lousiana. He may have meet the Durousseaus and other gentleman and arraged for his daughters to marry.
It just a guess that needs to be fleshed out a bit more.
