Re: Babylonians

They are a bit far back for me, but then linear a have/are tempting me to extend my interests in ancients (even with a few pre-historic figures to add in to my Airfix converts for a game of 'Paleo diet' with the grandkids).

On the subject of linear a, have you seen the latest master for the Samnite cavalry set? What a beauty. I really like the pose of a lancer thrusting to the side. The armour, helmet and man look beautifully sculpted, even in such a small thumbnail.

So just a random question for the forum goers here, am I the only one interested in having a set of Babylonians produced? :joy: I know Linear-A has promised some Old Babylonians... but then again Caesar also promised some Neo-Babylonians and I am still waiting for those...
When Caesar was a going concern, I mentally planned a Neo-Babylonian army.
This included using Hittite & Mitannian chariots with Babylonian crew.

I thought I could get a viable army organised but the bubble burst with the death of Caesar.

Re: Babylonians

I very much hope that its still too early to write them off completely, but it doesnt look too good though.
At Bennos we can read contradictory comments but I truly hope that Caesar can get back on its feet again.

So, sadly, there seems little hope for an arrival of such long-heralded sets as their Babylonians, WWII Dutch, Spanish-American War 1898 or Russo-Japanese War 1904/05.

On the other hand, Linear-A in particular looks like the perfect manufacturer to takeover the otherwise dormant "Axial Age" subject area.

However, personally I would be very happy to see an adequate treatment of both the Old and New Babylonian Empires, as well as a general revival of "biblical" topics. :slightly_smiling_face:

Re: Babylonians

Yay! Good to know that I am not entirely alone.

Re: Babylonians

Its not an era for me personally, but I do think ancients are just as important a subject as any, & obviously Babylonians are as much a part of that world as any.
So keep campaigning for them!! Alan eventually got his much sort after LRDG, which are really nice sets, so fingers crossed you may yet get your Babylonians.

Not too hopeful of seeing my Waterloo British/KGL in square though 😔.

Re: Babylonians

No, i'd like to have some Babylonians as well as other "old stuff" too. I'm one of those guys being happy that Linear-A exist - and they really do a good job.

Yes please to Babylonians (both Old and Neo).

Caesar produced some test shots of a few Babylonians about 15 years ago (I think), including some nice looking spearmen and archers, but they disappeared before commercial production.

I am looking forward to seeing what Linear A deliver.

The whereabouts of Caesars "forgotten" sets caused quite some speculation at various hobby forums during the past 16 years.
Just recently, someone posted images of the "lost" Babylonians and other unreleased Caesar figures at Bennos.

Re: Babylonians

Dear PeterTheGreat,

Thank you for posting this link to Bennos. It's very interesting. Caesar had always been very responsive to my questions. They even sent me a few test shots from their pre Conquistadores set that didn't make it into their final selection.

For whatever reason, I hope they rejoin the hobby in the future!

And thank you also because your link further included another link to Cristian Florescu's great Blog on his WWII collection. Well, probably about a squirrel's age ago, I e-mailed him and his response was pure pleasure; a real gentleman with a healthy passion for this hobby.

Thank you again for your very interesting information and have a great weekend. - GC

Re: Babylonians

Yes, most definitely to Neo-Babylonians - need someone to fight those Assyrians!

Grateful for the shots of the Caesar ones too!

Re: Babylonians--a direct reply

These images of masters (thanks Peter) and subsequent discussion had me interested, so I contacted Caesar directly.

I received a prompt, courteous and direct reply that some of the out of production sets are available via their webstore (the minitoysoldier one). Unfortunately I already knew that the Egyptian chariots (HO24) that I'd quite like to get hold of is not amongst them.

I asked further about any possible new sets and again received a prompt, friendly and direct reply:

"Yes! If you want to make some new sets, we will help you. What do you think?"

From that I gather that there are no plans to produce new sets, but a production house is there.

Re: Babylonians--a direct reply

Thanks! I saw on Ebay (Deutschland's version) that five of the Neo-Babylonian guys were on sale from a vendor in St. Petersburg. They made it sound like they were some of the master figures for that announced set, and priced accordingly. I thought about buying them, but to be honest I am more interested in building formations rather than having five random figures of this and that for diorama purposes. But they are out there.

Good to hear that Caesar maintain at least a cursory interest in the hobby, thanks James. I actually have an idea for a 1/72 company or figure line in the future, but will place it on a separate post to see what you guys think... :sunglasses:
