099 & M007 Romans

Hi everybody,

I have contributed some Romans from sets 099 Roman Cavalry on the March and M007 Roman Legion at March.

What I really like about these Strelets figures is that they provide interesting poses which no other manufacturer bothers to make. Roman legionaries spent a lot of time marching and carrying their own stuff, but to my knowledge in the whole 1/72 plastic world there is only this one set showing such poses.

But my personal favorite is the cavalry trooper drinking from his bottle – just perfect for a desert scenario!

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Mr Berry
Your Roman Figures look superb. The Diorama is well built, and I love the stone building. Is it a Zvezda piece? These Romans are among the best that Strelets have produced and long may they continue to do so. Last year they promised a future large box for this era, and I for one am really looking forward to it. Romans are always popular and with the efforts of men like Mr Berry, hopefully others will be inspired to dabble in this era.

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Hi,

the building you mention is a limes tower form Fine Scale Factory (my first resin model ever).

I must admit that I collect only Romans, including anybody else who might serve as their ally, enemy or simply neighbour. This is quite a restricted area of interest, but my idea is to collect only one era, yet this one extensively.

The Strelets sets offer some very nice complementary figures to go along with other manufacturers. For instance, in an ancient battle only a fraction of the men were involved in actual fighting at a time, this is in particular true for the Romans with their threefold battle line. So the Strelets sets of Romans "before battle" are a great idea. Other manufacturers tend to produce mainly fighting poses "caught in the act", you can't fill a whole battlefield with them.

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Bravo stephan , lovely composition.you should be iin movie business with an obseravtive art eye you have.

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

That’s an interesting observation: I love movies, especially historical ones!

When Hollywood does the next time something like “Gladiator“, I’ll be there – I know beforehand that the story will be complete nonsense, but it is always nice to have the visual impression of ancient buildings, palaces, cities etc. The atmosphere in the Coliseum was captured very well in Gladiator (although the fighting techniques had no relation to real gladiator fights).

Well, this weekend I will watch the new Star Trek piece, also some kind of “ancient history”.

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Hi Stephan if my ex wife can win teh oscar then so could you.You be surprise what a few nomination can do.keep up you good work,

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Hi Hank,

thanks for your encouragement!

To be honest, I don’t expect to ever get the Oscar – but perhaps I live long enough to see some other things happen, such as the completion of the HäT Late Roman range. Or perhaps the release of the Byzantines from Caesar. Or … Well, patience is the most important qualification for a figure collector, it seems.

Best regards
Stephan

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Stephan, the bridge you have used looks like it is made from cork material, and a hellava good bridge it is too. Your diorama has inspired me to complete a bridge section I started late last year using Zvezda kits. I will use cork to complete it.

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Hi Mike,

the bridge is a ceramic cast from Kai Fuhrmann, if you want to take a further look:
http://fuhrmann-figuren.de/porcelin/bruecke.htm

I have no expercience with cork at all, so if you have some finished buildings, I'd be curious to see the results.

I remember that I have seen in a museum some cork models of Greek temples, the models were some 200 years old and quite impressive - about 1:10 or 1:20 scale.

Best regards
Stephan

Re: 099 & M007 Romans

Thanks for the reply Stephan, I have some houses made from cork, but old photos of when they were being made.
Will post the painted ones soon, hopefully with some medieval or Napoleonic figures.
