Re: Napoleonic Polish Infantry and Crimean War French engineers /Génie

Dear Patrick

I think the Génie/Engineers could be slightly modified for the Crimean War so the other part would not be wasted. Modification would be to give some kepis and some with the short shell type jacket rather than all with armour protection. They could provide a very important element in the siege of Sevastopol with the artillery. The engineers are about 12 poses.
Additionally, the whole set proved to be a good seller because they are quite rare now. I always thought limited editions with injection moulded figures was crazy unless you own E bay. Maybe if the tool has been recycled then there is a case for redoing them from scratch.

Re: Napoleonic Polish Infantry

Agreed, Patrick.
I've painted up the grenadiers as a short-lived Guards unit of Polish Grenadiers (1813). Truly figures with character.
As for the engineers, I've used them in a few games. Recently, a French rear guard, pursued by Russians, needed to hold off the enemy for a set number of turns & some random dice rolls whilst these sappers destroyed three bridges.
I won (not a frequent occurence) due to the excellence of the Strelets' figures, I'm sure

General Jozef Poniatowski

I wasn't even aware until now that Napoleon, Murat, & Poniatowski were part of this set.

Jozef Poniatowski's presence alone should justify Strelets giving the Polish contingent a much larger representation, especially given the bravery of this brave Polish-Lithuanuian General.

ps

Leave off the "(Row 4)" when visiting the website!

100,000 Polish

The Polish Army marched with Napoleon to the Gates of Moscow with 100,000 troops, I would think that number alone would deserve some consideration.

Re: 100,000 Polish

Hi, Patrick,
a fair number of Poles wore French uniform so that is not a problem.
However, more in the Czapska & plastron-fronted tunic would be welcme.

Re: Re: 100,000 Polish

Not having collected the "Osprey Series" in years (I have over 180), I was wondering if they ever did one on "Napoleon's Polish Allies" ???

Re: Re: Re: 100,000 Polish

yes is the answer, Osprey did publish one

Men-at-Arms number 45 "Napoleon's Polish Troops" by Pivka in 1974

think they may have re-issued it a few years back
