Re: 1:72 muletrain would be very handy

"IMEX 515 - Mexican Cavalry At The Alamo" have three mules (loaded with sacks) and a fourth mule with a "driver".

Re: Re: 1:72 muletrain would be very handy

Esci Italian mountain troops has a couple of mules. But maybe Strelets could consider an ancient/ medieval baggage train with mules, carts and baggage waggons to accompany the "armies on the march" series.

Re: Re: Re: 1:72 muletrain would be very handy

I was hoping for a mule train ever since I first saw Strelets announcing their 'Roman soldiers on the march'. I was immediately thinking of Marius' mules - which I know where the Roman legionaries, but yet I still envision the real mules right next to them.

Every legion had a baggage train of 500–550 mules or about 1 mule for every 10 legionaries. It might be a nice touch to give us a box of mules - 6 poses/24 mules? - to complete the Strelets Roman Legion.

Even many centuries later, we would still need mules to depict modern battles, like the battle of the bulge, accurately:

A Roman muletrain would be a great addition to the existing range.

Or an Indian mountain battery on mules for the colonial range.

Or the British army with 3-pounders on mules for the 1809 campaign.

Or,or,or

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 1:72 muletrain would be very handy

I know Uwe we could go on and on getting ever more specialised types of baggage - personally, I'm not too much of a purist a cart is a cart and a loaded mule is a loaded mule to me. It would be nice to have a set of mules with generic baggage that could be used in numerous time periods - or possibly different types of baggage on the sprue seperate from the animal so you can kit it out for your chosen period. Carts are a bit more problematic but could roughly be broken down into pre-1500 and post 1500, meaning only two sets. I haven't got round to painting them yet but I use Imex wagons for my World War Two French, which is probably totally wrong, but when the stukas find them their life on the table is probably going to be pretty short!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 1:72 muletrain would be very handy

I'd like to see a Spanish mule train in Panama from
the 16th Century loaded with treasure for Sir Francis
Drake or the Buccaneers to plunder! Of course, I'd
like to see a Buccaneer or Elizabethean sets as well!

Cammels and Elephants too

...and possible a llama train, for the Inca conquest.

I'm certain the cammels would be as useful as the mules.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 1:72 muletrain would be very handy

Ey, heretic britsfan pirate, do not put your hands in the gold of his Catholic Majesty!!
If it is for this purpose, i do not want the muletrain set !!!

Seriouysly: generic set of "animal train" could be great: many mules, some camels, some oxes, a pair of elephants and, why not? llamas. A sprue with sheep-pig-goats could also be used

Oxen?

Oxen with yokes and limber would be great.
I have several armies (e.g. Ottomans) whose guns need to be drawn with such a limber team.

Yack, Yack.. oops Yak, Yak I want a Yak Train :^)

Livestock ready

Carlos,
as for "Farm"-animals like pigs, sheeps, ... .
Preiser offers 2 excellent sets of very useful figures like horses, cows, sheeps, goats, chicken, ... even a shepherd is included. Another set would be good for variety but until then I`m well served with that 2. Nikolai offers other animal-figures: oxen, camels, ... .
Greetings

"Naked mules"

What would you think of a set of mules, elefants etc. without equipement or different sorts of seperate equipement, so that we can convert them as we like them to be?

Elefant drawn Indian artillery or an ancient war-elefant.

Stukas against Mules - that is not fair!!

Elephants

Uwe,

As far as elephants go the Britains baby elephant in 1/32nd scale is a good candidate. I used this model to make ancient elephants when there were none available. Size wise it is smaller than the Zvedza ones but larger than the Hat offerings.

Best regards,

Malcolm

Re: Elephants

Hi Malcolm,

many thanks for the tip. Some cheap plastic Zoo-sets for small children have nice elefants too.
A lot of opportunities.

Re: Livestock ready

Carlos since you live in Spain as I do at Chrismas you may find some sheep for decorating a Belen. I bought a small flock, sold indivually prepainted 5 poses perfect 1/72nd scale long legged skinny beasts. I am not sure what breed but I use them from the Holy Land to Viking raids and on into the 19th Century.

Best regards,

Malcolm

To Strelets - Separate, attachable packs with Generic animals ...

Carlos and Uwe make exellent points above.

Personally, along their suggested lines, hopefully you could consider a Strelets-Mini set of 4 identical sprews, which each sprew has one each of the horse, mule, camel, etc, and separate attachable packs including maybe boxes and bags bundled, a maxim machine gun on back-rack, a small mountain cannon on back-rack, a double stretcher set for wounded soldiers etc.

It would be so easy to sculpt the animals in walking/standing poses with a single peg on top about 5mm tall in the center of their backs, and make single sculpts of the packs with a hole all the way thru them (just like Roman shields).

The packs could just be pressed on the animal with no glue, and in the Mini format, 4 identical sprews would give the customer at least that many options, or buy multiple sets (like me) and make a huge, long pack train ... just waiting to be attacked by enemies of ancients, all the way up thru Colonials and WWI (even WWII).

Even if not separate Mini sets, then it could be a great accessory set to be included in a Big Box format with other command sets. We wouldn't need to buy so many Big Boxes to have a lot of pack-train options, and packs could be swopped as many times as the customer wants for different themes.

Thank you for listening!

Separate, attachable packs with Generic animals ...

Great minds Dave...see "cuirassieurs old metal figure method"

Re: Separate, attachable packs with Generic animals ...

really an excellent idea!! Now let's hope Strelets would listen
