Crimean Hussars

Dear Uwe and Scott
The two hussar regiments at Balaclava were the 11th and the 8th. The 8th was known as the - 8th (the Kings Royal Irish) Regiment of Light Dragoons (Hussars). The uniforms of the 8th and the 11th are the same in our scale but there are differences in the colour of the trousers.

The Emhar set contains two hussar officers so when combined with the Strelets sets there may be a surfeit of hussar officers. Officers have five rows of buttons- so easily spotted. The surplus could be converted into Royal Horse Artillery officers who had a similar uniform. Revells Nappy British foot artillery could give you a team of horses and a 9 pounder. I haven't tried it but it should work. Why haven't I tried it? Because Emhars few hussars are precious until we get the Strelets' ones.

Emhars two hussar poses essentially focus on the charge not the subsequent melee so I hope Strelets come up with their usual full repertoire of Crimean cavalry poses.

Good news now lets see the master figures.

Spectacular News!

Now the Charge of the Light Brigade can ride down "The Valley of Death" together once more in history.

Right now, I can hear bugle calls, the sound of swords rattling, horses excitement, men cheering, Russians giving orders to load their cannons. But it's not my imagination. Where could these echoes be coming from ... ?

The Strelets*R Crimean Range will be one of the most popular ranges ever. Just imagine if you were a kid again, and walked into your hobby shop, and found this one giant "Collector's Edition" box with one of each set in it. The talented S*R artist's depiction of "The Charge" rumbling down the valley with cannons firing on them would be his crowning achievement, to date. You look inside and see all of the great colors ... and go positively crazy until you had it ... and then all the men and horses and artillery would ready up once more, and the echoes would sound up all over again!

Thank you S*R Team! "Spectacular work!"

Re: Spectacular News!

Hi friends,

yes and I hope for a lot of sword-fighters and attacking poses. I imagine the light brigade, the first troops breaking in the Russian artillery, while the rest is still behind in formation (or what was left of it). Please not too much firing guys this time

Thanks David for the information. I have a lot of material for both units. Where is the museum of the British Husars in the UK? Maybe I can put it on my next visit.

cheers
Uwe

Hussar museums

Dear Uwe
For the 11th Hussars
The Kings Royal Hussars (as they are now) Museum is in Winchester
For the 8th Hussars
The Queens Royal Irish Hussars( Queens Royal Hussars now) collection is in Eastbourne (Redoubt Fortress)
The QRH, not museum, but web site is:
http://www.qrh.org.uk/index2.htm
both are basically in SE England.

British Cavalry regiments go through a lot of amalgamations as you would expect so it can be very confusing. British regiments are a little like families so if they merge, their collections go with them even though they may end up far from the original recruiting area.

Re: Hussar museums

HI David,

many thanks for the information. I was in Winchester two years ago. There is the Gurka-Museum, Rifle-Brigade, on infantry regiment, but I can't remember to see hussars there.

Eastbourne will be worth a visit. SE England would be a good location, last time I missed the Buffs and some others, because they were closed over the weekend....

cheers

Strelets, makers of 1/72 cannon fodder

Yup Strelets are getting the reputation for making cannon fodder sets.

Another cavalry regiment to be thrown against the guns."Use once only", tehn throw away, chuckle.

I hope these hussars will have reasonable and noticeable beards and sideburns than the previous Brit cav Crimean sets. I guess they will leap frog(forgive th epun) teh french cavb , earlier announced Brit Guards and Light Inf(should scrap this last box anyway).
