Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

Hallo nach berlin,

I've bought all of the Strelets Normans also, Babylonian! I enjoy putting together Playsets, so they work perfectly for a theme to the movie, "The War Lord." I even bought the Warlord Games Castle Tower to make the Keep where Charlton Heston and his Normans are seiged be the Druids. I enjoyed your story, too! Thank you and keep contributing - GC

Great minds 'Garrison'... or is it fools never differ? I'm never sure which!

For mine, a few photos from another game of Klissow 1702. This time using "Polemos Great Northern War" rules.

Figures used include Strelets, naturligtvis, Mars, Orion and Zvezda. A bit more paint required on most, but you can tell which is which :grinning:

Three turns done so far, another session planned for a couple of weeks or so when we expect to bring it to a climatic conclusion with the infantry combat in the centre.

Cheers, James

Hello, James. It's great to chat with people "of the same mind." I really enjoy your pictures. It's great to see all of the hard work you guys put into your war games. Pictures like yours always remind me of movie scenes such as in "Battle of Britain" where the great commanders move "pieces" around their battle table planning their next moves. Great work, James. Keep'em coming. Makes my coffee taste better and a great way to start my weekends! - GC

Well everyone. Another week has come and gone, so I just want to say - Godspeed to everyone in the Ukraine and Forum Members and do your best to take care of your families, friends and pets!

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

Spent the weekend at home unexpectedly following recent events in the UK that saw what I was going to be doing cancelled. Watched a piece of history with the first broadcasting of the Accession Council and the subsequent Privy Council meeting, attended by King Charles III. Not something you do every day of the week.

And I finished my most recent batch of WSS cavalry: https://wargaming4grownups.blogspot.com/2022/09/some-painting-table-output.html

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

Excellent cavalry, Graham! Appreciated your remark about involvement in history ... Maybe you were at a Beatles concert? Joke.

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

Not the Beatles this time, although I did see a very good tribute band called the Bootleg Beatles earlier in the year!

And thanks for the complement of the cavalry. You re a much better painter than me!

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

Dear Graham Evans,

Cheers from the U.S. again. Thank you for your Post Card! I really enjoyed your link. The painting skills you displayed via close-up photography on your Strelets British Cavalry was first rate. I really enjoyed looking at the figures, all the colors, and reading your comments accompanying each one. Durn, I already need a second cup of coffee to finish! Keep it up and please keep posting your enjoyable work.

Godspeed to Everyone, your families, friends and Pets - GC :earth_americas: :earth_africa:

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

The painting technique is very simple. I pick out the details but don't shade and them slop lots of external tinted wood varnish all over them (Ronseal in the UK). They're wargame figures, so they're meant to be handled. When people ask me what I like most about painting figures the answer is "Finishing them", so I can put them out on the table.

I thought the blog link worked the best, as our friends at Strelets look a bit busy to be posting vanity pictures on their website!"

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

C'mon Graham it was all about generating traffic to your blog, hahaha!!

I'm sure you know this already, but you can insert an image in your post by using the 'copy link' option for an image on your blog and then pasting that link between the html code .

Fine figures as ever and your blog is always worth visiting (I'll comment 'properly' there).

I enjoy all styles of painting, but the 'wargame-ready' approach of doing the main bits appeals greatly and works brilliantly on the table, en-masse. You understate yours though, as you add lace, saddle borders and paint the flags really well!

Regards, James

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

I didn't know it was that simple to embed a picture in a forum post. I've tried it elsewhere but rarely successfully. Besides, if you didn't visit the blog you'd not be able to read my pithy comments.

Painting the borders and lace is straight forwards if you have a fine enough brush! The figures have good clear raised detail so picking it out with a light touch with the brush is fairly easy.

Re: Post Cards from (Home Country) & Strelets Projects - Anyone care to join in?

The bit that got left out of my previous was the "img" and "/img", with the quotes replaced by square brackets. That is the html code that I referred to.

If you click on the "bbcode" hyperlink next to the words 'Enter Message' above the box where you type a post, it shows all of the codes.

Cheers, James

Hi

Have to be blank postcard from Teesside, but working on the Pacific War1879, with Strelets ACW range providing the Chilean national guard at moment, with Bolivian to follow. Other manufacturers eg Esci French Foriegn Legion and various ACW ranges also involved. Very colourful version of the Franco-prussian war re kit and indeed uniforms.

Thinking of the Strelets, Redbox and Orion teams in these terrible times.

Cheers

Great choice! Really interesting conflict. Can I recommend a set of Wargames rules, written specifically for the period?

You can get them from amazon, or download for Wargames Vault.
