Re: Freedom of speech

Yes, Bennos have adopted a 'no politics' policy, and that is fair enough. And to be honest, it is 'nice' in these difficult times to retreat to a corner of the internet away from politics.

I think that many Forum members here at Strelets have given a view, and that is good. Let us also remember that a very large number of ordinary Russians are (almost certainly) not in favour of the current conflict; and that some (maybe no that many, but some) Ukranians, in the east of the country anyway, are supportive of the Russian regime.

The names of some of the places being mentioned in the news eg: Kharkiv, Odessa - resonate as the names given to key battles during the 1941-45 conflict between the USSR and Germany. We should have learnt our lessons but appear not to have done.

Let us hope that talks now apparently under-way will move in a positive direction, and that the current high levels of international tension can be relaxed somewhat. We have problems enough in this World to resolve, and a European war cannot help us to do this.

Re: Freedom of speech

There's a lot to be learned from history, alas it's rarely done. If Prussia had after the war with France 1870/71 not adopted a mentality of "the winner takes it all", it might have avoided being treated in the same way after WWI and perhaps, perhaps that might have avoided the rise of a certain dictator. We'll never know. After the demise of the Soviet Union there was a sort of "the winner takes it all" mentality in the West which did not sit well with many Russians. But of course the roots of the conflict go deeper. You have to go back a very long time to find a century when Russia was not attacked by it's neighbours or it's neighbours neighbours, Mongols, Swedes, French, Germans to name but a few. Not exactly an experience to beget a trustfull relationship with your neighbours. And as a consequence it has a long tradition of surrounding itself with weak, semisubsidary nations as buffers. The fate of empires it seems, Rome did the same. Which in turn did not exactly encourage amicable relations between these nations and Russia. So it's a complicated world, with a sort of paranoia and deep rooted mistrust between neighbours, which unfortunately has sound historical reasons. And the fact that this seems to have been ignored and action today is still driven by the selfsame fears and prejudices and resulting in the regress to the same old means of bullying those who do not follow suit into submission could just make you think, that neither the age of reason nor that of enlightenment have ever happened. Fear, ignorance and dreams of lost grandeur however can never be an excuse.

Re: Freedom of speech

Re: Freedom of speech

Let's hope the people of Strelet's and Red Box and their loved ones will come out of this well and alive, as well well as everybody else who has been pulled into in this quagmire of madness against their will - everything else can eventually be rebuild.

Re: Freedom of speech

Assolutamente concordo con te al 100% !!!

Re: Freedom of speech

An absolute amen to Alan's words. We all share a passion for plastic soldiers, but I am certain that none of us wish to see a return to the wars and mentality of the former centuries. I am acting in support of my country, the United States, never again turning its back on NATO and the other countries of the world. These past few years have been a stunning reminder of how much influence single individuals with a power mania can have on the fate of humanity, and how important it is for the majority of us to join together to resist the maniacs of this world. My constant thoughts and hopes are for the people of Ukraine. They deserve the right to have their country be what they want it to be.

Re: Freedom of speech

Yes no room for politics But my 2 cents worth NATO = No Action Only Talk Slava Ukrayini !!!!

Re: Freedom of speech

The Western world is trying to avoid World war three, " I know not what weapons WW3 will be fought with, but WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones".
