I don`t think they truly ever left, they just slowly released old sets when retailers sold out, if you wanted a specific set it usually could be found somewhere. Nice to hear they are once again producing new sets, but I cannot get excited about an era I have never heard of, much less collect, but it could be an indicator as to where they think the future of the hobby lies for them, the Chinese market is potentially enormous.

Good to see that they are back with a some orginal ideas. Lets hope they have moved away from their endless Third reich phase and start producing more different subjects (the WW2 Dutch set come to mind!)

I am up for pretty much anything, anywhere before 1789 AD. The deserty Chinese are in the west. :P

Although I think they would have to improve their sculpt/moulds a bit more looking at the previews of the Italian WW1 sets on PSR. Following what happened with other previous newer sets, it certainly seems to be the case that in terms of the quality, it's gone backwards.
I am just glad they still produce the older stuff, albeit some sets not often enough.

But yes it would be good to have some choice (and healthy competition) out there.

Sadly as much as I would dearly love to see that phoenix rise from the flames I very much doubt it will. All our modern companies are driven by one man, the owner and toy soldier enthusiast , Hat are now owned by a plastic injection company, and as can be seen from most if not all the sets released over the last few years the care ,eye for detail and consistency is no longer there. The sculptors have obviously moved on too.

And what if Caesar/Miniknight continues by releasing far east items of ww2 era? They are Taiwanese after all. So, hurry up Strelets, make some before them!!! (what a cunning man I am...):innocent: :innocent: :innocent:

I avoided the Bronze Age Caesar sets for a long time due to the positioning of their shields (which is not great), but after acquiring the Egyptians, Nubians, and Hittites I feel like quite a big idiot because they are just splendid sculpts regardless of that one flaw. Will be tracking down the rest of them for sure down the road here. The Incas are super great too; they are largely based on the drawings done by Guaman Poma de Ayala in the 1500s right after the initial Spanish conquest (via Plates F & G in Osprey MAA 101 The Conquistadores, Terence Wise & Angus McBride 1980).

By the way, if anybody knows where I can find the Hittite Great King (Muwatalli II more specifically) pose that occasionally appeared in the super rare CAEH024 Egyptian Chariots set I am most interested.

YES, thank uu! Saw this shop on Ebay a few months back, but could not find their listings on there anymore. Those chariots are cool too, well worth it. :D

I bought an extra set of Egyptian chariots just because it had that extra figure. It was a little like the early Stretlets figures with their bonus figure, where you were tempted to buy a box just for that one unique figure.

Years ago I bought more boxes of Egyptian chariots than I needed trying to get the Hittite king, but kept getting the Assyrian king (the bonus figure was one or the other, and there was no knowing which was in the box without opening it). I wrote to Caesar asking what I could do, and they gave me the address of a supplier in Hong Kong who would supply a Hittite king free provided I bought at least half a dozen boxes of any Caesar product. The cost wasn't too outrageous, even with postage, and I was desperate so I did it, and the Hittites have gone into battle under their king many times since. Unfortunately I don't have the address anymore, and as the political situation in Hong Kong has changed dramatically I don't know if the seller is still in business, but it shows the lengths some people will go to to complete their armies!

Here in the EU it looks like a shop in St. Petersburg may have made a similar style of arrangement, charging basically 20 EUR with shipping in order to get both (no chariots, sadly for me). The Assyrian by the way is Ashurnasirpal II (most of their names involve Ashur, their deity of choice and whom the entire culture was named after), he has a number of artefacts inside the British Museum. Cool figure.

Although not really my areas of interest, their sculpts are rather nice. Their choices leave me baffled at times. Why make a combined set of f.i. French and Chinese army? What's wrong with two separate sets, especially while there are hardly any French or Chinese sets on the market?
