British Firing Line contribution

A fine contribution, Paul! If I am not mistaken, this is a classic 'corner of the square' setting, with the Duke in evidence behind ranks of British Infantry. It looks also as if you have fitted bayonets to muskets that did not previously have them, and the overall impression this gives in this setting is good ie: the long bayonets help to give the a-little-too-short muskets that this set is armed with an authentically 'long look.'

It would be good to have had a couple more photos, but the quality of the paintwork and basing here looks very good. From what I can tell though, these are battalion company men for the most part (based on the white over red shako plumes and cords), rather than the battalion's light company. But a minor detail in what is otherwise a great cameo scene from the fields of Quatre Bras or Waterloo.

Re: British Firing Line contribution

Yes, lovely stuff Paul. Top painting and arrangement.

Re: British Firing Line contribution

Thats some serious metal on the ends of those firearms Paul!!! Well done on having the patience to try and correct the issue.

Mark is correct. These guys aren't quite right for portraying either one of the light battalions or a flank company of light infantry.
The light battalions had a "stovepipe" type of shako, not the Belgic shako. Both the light battalions & light companys also had flank shoulder rolls rather than tufts & they also had green plumes/cords on their shakos.

But nontheless, these men have been very nicely painted, so again well done with your efforts.

Re: British Firing Line contribution

The dogs dangly bits, 10/10 from me Paul.

Great job with a great overall impression. Thanks for sharing your work!

Re: British Firing Line contribution

Nice firing line i like it a lot you have turned these figures in to really great scene to behold.:yum:

Re: British Firing Line contribution ( They don't like it up em )

Thank you Chaps, for your kind words of praise and constructive criticism. The bayonets are indeed too big. I did try to trim them after I had stuck them on, unfortunately to little effect. I enjoyed painting these figures, well most of them anyway. I particularly liked the casualties as I don't think there are enough in the hobby. The word impression was used a couple of times and that's exactly what I was trying to achieve. Unfortunately I shall have to wait till Strelets produce a number of figures in the kneeling position before I would try for any accuracy. I did dig out some Airfix soldiers doing just that but the painting was so poor and they looked incompatible with the new set. Not being a wargamer or an amateur historian I just tend to follow the box art.
Many thanks
Paul

Re: British Firing Line contribution ( They don't like it up em )

Great presentation of some very nicely painted figures Paul. They look terrific, very neat lace and cross belts.

As for the figures themselves, most of the qualms I had about them have completely disappeared under the paint, so a good useful set.:relaxed:

Re: British Firing Line contribution ( They don't like it up em )

I agree; you did a bang-up job on these. As for quibbles - nil illegitimus carborundum!

Re: British Firing Line contribution

Well done Paul... Fine paint job.
