Re: Trouble at bridge

Great work on this substantial battle of Stamford Bridge scene, Paul. Well done!

I was lucky enough to see a couple of shots of this a couple of weeks ago, and it is a marvellous creation. The use of the different and varied poses in the various Strelets Saxon and Viking sets is very effective and the overall 'armed mass' appearance of opposing armies - lots of brandished swords and axes - works very well. The river and banks are symbolic rather than being modelled to re-create absolute realism, but the men wading in the water and the bridge itself are excellent!

And 'Yes', it is good to see something medieval (even if it is fairly early medieval ie: 1066). All very inspiring:relaxed:

PS: A point of detail which has gone down in the legends of the battles of 1066, and which Paul tells me he has modelled here; but just visible below the bridge is the Saxon spearmen in a small boat who is about to bring about the downfall of the heroic Viking Huscarl holding the bridge against any Saxon who attempts to cross...by spearing him from below where it hurts most.

Who said we Brits always play fair....?

Where's that confounded bridge?

Re: Trouble at bridge

Many thanks for the compliments and enquiries about my Stamford Bridge submission.
I feel timing of the posting of the same is a bit unfortunate following straight on from Borodino's immaculate last and General Pictons realistic High Road.
Minuteman has it right, for me I just try to put the lads in some kind of setting as a basic enhancement of my painted figures before they are destined for the box and the attic.
The bridge was scratch made from barbecue skewers and matchsticks. I needed to make it so the Saxon scallywag could thrust up with his spear between the planking and put paid to the Viking champion by underbridge methods. This figure was the only one that wasnt Strelets but an Emhar deckhand (the pose was right and he fit in the barrel).
Thank you, for the encouragement.
Paul

If you mean geographically rather than metaphorically...Stamford Bridge is in Yorkshire, not too far from York. It is not the Stamford Bridge in London used by a rich and famous football club. That is something else altogether....

Re: Trouble at bridge

Great stuff Paul, most take photo`s of my Anglo Saxons and send them in, and finish the French pikemen, not touched a brush in weeks.

Re: Trouble at bridge

Reet Proper Grand!

The figures all look fantastic, the bridge is excellent, and there's a real feel of a battle in progress here. Great scene.

The Special Barrel Service operative is a very cool detail. :sunglasses:
