White Oak Swamp contribution

A big 'Well Done!' to Mr Fletcher for the atmospheric sepia-style photographs just posted.

I think I'm right in saying that the ACW was the first major war to be well-documented in photographs, and these really capture the style of this early photography. Excellent!

Re: White Oak Swamp contribution

Well, I was going to post Confederates at rest but have been beaten to it with this superb idea.

There is a real ‘feel’ of the time as if Mr Gardner had taken the pictures himself.

Sky’s can be tricky as they do not have folds and the camera is merciless, but the sepia look just adds to the atmosphere.

Tremendous stuff.

Best wishes,

Chris

Outstanding.

If I could ask an ignorant question: were the figures painted or just washed?

Dear Brian,

A fantastic idea that is brilliantly executed in this diorama.

Thanks for creating and posting this scene. Beaut!

James

[Donald, the idea of wargaming the American Civil War in sepia comes to mind. Then I realised that in order to make it work effectively the figures would need to be painted so as to get the light and dark shades—I am second guessing Brian's response to you, of course. Out of turn and way ahead of myself, sorry!]

Some beautiful shots; the sepia tone actually adds to the realism of the scene.
