Re: Second Mexican Empire 1862

It’s a 1960’s Hollywood Western, in which a mixed group of Union and Cofederate soldiers fight French lancers on the Rio Grande. Mostly ahistorical, but lots of action.

Re: Second Mexican Empire 1862

The name of that film is The Undefeated with John Wayne and Rock Hudson. It is a highly interesting period with smashing uniforms and where different armies were involved in the conflict.

Re: Second Mexican Empire 1862

I went to see. It's a film starring Sam Peckinpah, Charlton Heston, Richard Harris, Jim Hutton, Michael Anderson Jr., James Coburn, Warren Oates, Mario Adorf, Ben Johnson, ..... On the other hand, I will not try to reproduce a single scene from the film. because if on the side of Uncle Sam's units the uniforms are correct, on the French side they are operetta uniforms quite in a Holliwoodian representation. In other words, totally false. If we add a fact of arms that did not exist. It's a movie just for fun.

On the other hand, I would like to reproduce the siege of Puebla and/or the assault on Fort San Javier and/or the convent of Guadalupita. Moreover, it is a conflict never dealt with and with a certain exoticism.

Re: Second Mexican Empire 1862

Remember a 1970 Spag Western with Yul Brynner, "Adios, Sabata" - where he plots to steal a cash of gold from the Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico that is guarded by Austrian troops in his employ.

Just watched You - Tube trailer - Austrian uniforms look pretty good - a la 1866 Austro-Prussian War - white coats, grey-blue pants, etc.

Re: Second Mexican Empire 1862

Thanks Pedro for the information. It is good that there is interest in this Mexican European conflict. Those who are interested should show their support. For instance I dream of having the Fench Foreign Legion & Mexican Republican forces to re-enact the battle of Camaron.

Mexican Revolution (1910-1920)as well.
