Re: Strelets' home page a thing of joy. Mounted officers

Edwardian
Couldn't agree more. Every brigade, every division, needs a general. I rather like to give them figures to represent staff. So, G de Bs get an ADC, G de Ds get 2 ADCs.

Corps and army commanders get more. It all adds up to a lot of figures!
Now ADCs are another matter.

They are an excuse to acquire, paint & use single figures not only in regulation ADC uniforms but also in a range of other uniforms often including very decorative light cavalry.

I'm mainly speaking about Napoleonics here but they can add a lot of colour.

Our "new" rule set, 'General d'Armee',also uses ADCs as a key part of its unique command & control system. An "army" commander (more usually the CO of a Corps), usually gets 1 ADC per brigade in his force.....depending upon his ability he can get more or fewer.

At the start of each game turn, these can be assigned to any brigade as "taskings" ie giving brigades orders. These can simply be to help ensure the brigade will obey orders & not "hesitate" to special tasks such Infantry Assault (you get more battalions able to charge at once) to force march to re-deploy etc.

Your ability to use your available ADCs (or, to be precise, give out appropriate orders) is the key to winning the game.

Yes! Mounted brigade and divisional commanders for all nations, preferably on relatively inactive horses - yes please!!

Oh my, what a thing of beauty,
is the current home page of our beloved Strelets,
with the thumbnail image of Gerd's Westphalian landwehr,
beside which,
the list of five,
embedded with links to nine,
coming sets of Napoleonic era infantry.

Alan will heartily agree with me, I know!

On an even more serious note, looking at the image on the box for the Russian Infantry on the March 1 (hey, that means there are likely more to come Alan, eh eh!), made me think how marvellous it would be if there actually was a mounted officer included. Would other Napoleonic wargamers, diorama makers and collectors concur?

(Aside to Alan. I am trusting from the 'tone' of your posts (and that of mine) that our little jests to one another are being taken in the very best humour in which they are written and intended!)
James , all taken in good spirit, never fear. Now LRDG/SAS about time we saw a master or two on a Friday.
