Re: Free civilian on the sprue

Great idea whether bonus figures, dedicated sets, or both. Camp followers and suttlers would be top of the list but general population civilians would be good too.

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

Edwardian
Actually, credit where it's due, it was Andy who said "you could even swap the "free" streletsi piece for a civilian of that appropriate era"

I agree. We agreed that both dedicated civilian sets and a bonus civilian with sets of soldiers would be good.

There are always camp followers, so a bonus civilian from the same era as the soldiers could almost never be wrong!

I can see a place in my heart, and on my table, for a WSS sutler. IIRC, one is featured in one of the Blenheim tapestries, so we have a fairly accurate idea of what he might look like!
Thanks but yes too long no real civilians in active poses and the idea of highwaymen ,freebooters, all loaded with loot would be great as armies were never really all spit and polish, as like was pointed out in paintings?
The "free" PIECE would be great to utilise like this as currently in each era there is at least 5 sets on each side and as I pointed out most people wore similar things so you could cross over and have even more available plus with special sets
You never see cavalry loaded down with stuff it's always regulation bits but everyone carried more stuff they "found"

Plus would love to see pack animals with interchangeable loads as once again never seems enough supply animals ...horses,mules,oxen etc and considering an army moved on foot and horse transport where arebtgey really ?

Great ideas from everyone strelets let's make some of them !!!!
Plus alans lrdg......

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

But then Strelets would have to change their name to штатский or Цивільний...

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

Generic civilians works better than most, a civilian for the period of the set it comes with works better for me at least , ie WW2 Europe , a civilian that fits, Napoleonic a civilian that fits , wss etc etc, and not forgetting the LRDG set needs making too

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

Mr Buckingham - Are you looking for figures to mount in jeeps?

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

Yes as well, but on foot would be good, just going stuff, like road watch, advancing , firing .

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

There are a few metals around, 20mm so on the small side, dixon are 18mm and way too small , some of the metals have stens , that never made it to the desert, the best is a wargames foundry figure, but they only do one pose ! some of the other metals are quite good, one with a vickers k being the pick.

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

I think this a brilliant idea as I think the Streltsi have run their course now. Obviously difficult to do dedicated sets as everybody will want different stuff but if you are buying for a particular era then if all the sets contained a civilian from that era it's bound to be useful. Probably a bit ambitious but what would really be wonderful is a little tableaux like a blacksmith working at the anvil or a women weaving or grinding grain.

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

Up to now, Strelets have left civilians to Linear A and Linear B. Although I do have a number of Strelets very first set FRENCH ARMY CAMP.

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

I meant to add that the French Army Camp has a number of civilians in it. So Strelets have already set the precedent.

Re: Free civilian on the sprue

Sounds a great idea.
