An amazing job. Splendid painting and scenery. Reminded me of the movie "Khartoum." Though I
expect in this day and age "Khartoum" would not be considered politically correct.
I wouldn't think this represents Khartoum not only for the size but for the troop types.
If it is historically based, I'd guess the Ansar seige of El Obeid, prior to Hicks Pasha's massacre.
Although the troop types are different (no Beja, for example), it also reminds me of Tewfiq Bey's heroic yet doomed defence of Sinkat in the eastern part of the Sudan. His garrison were mostly Bashi-Bazouks.
The story of Tewfiq Bey would make a fabulous movie.
