Le Creusot Boer gun

Hi All

Just wanted to point out that the Cresout Boer gun should really be renamed into either Creusot or Le Creusot, as this was the French manufacturer of that gun.

Sorry for being a stickler however I've struggled with Cresout for a while now... LOL!

Cheers and thanks for reading. :-)

Re: Le Creusot Boer gun

Am I correct that only four of these guns were made?
And they were all used by the Boers in the Boer War?

That's seems a rather specific set with limited utility.

Is there no other reason to buy them for those of us who don't do the Boer War?

Re: Le Creusot Boer gun

They were used in WW1 as were other Boer War era artillery pieces.

Re: Le Creusot Boer gun

Mike, 1,400 were made and had a service history from 1877 to 1944, including WW1, the SCW and WW2, see

Re: Le Creusot Boer gun

IMO it should be called "Boer Long Tom (155mm) Gun", with or without the 155mm as this is not essential... since that is a true description.

The French name is probarbly more like (Canon de)"155 Long Mle 1877", the Long is usually abreviated to 155L, Mle is short for Modele.... at least in French period manuals..

Also known as the "155 Long De Bange" as it used a De Bange breech.

so you can pick any of those really...
