That is who they remind me of (Foot Mamelukes) - I think they would do. I hadn't thought of it, but now you mention it I am of a mind to get some now and use them as such. Thanks for the inspiration.

Wonderful figures!! I'll use them as irregulars in my Napoleonic Ottoman Army to supplement the Redbox Ottoman Sailors.

A very useful set of figures, I can see lots of uses

Mine will be heading to Khartoum, where Gordon commanded a large force of both foot and horse Bashi Bazouks (though his opinion of their usefulness as combat troops was quite low -- an opinion that seems to match most everyone else's).

As others already said, an extremely useful set which can be utilised for quite an historical time span and many theatres.
