Re: Whats about civilians?

I agree ....i have always pushed for generic civilians for several eras as camp followers, supply echelon, even generic medical and if course my favourite.....pack animals with interchangeable loads with generic handlers as pack animals are even used today!!!!

Re: Whats about civilians?

Arlin
I would buy 19th century civilians, especially if they were useful for both the American Civil War (civilians to watch the Battle of Bull Run to avoiding shells at Vicksburg) and the Old West (bartenders, blacksmiths, saloon girls and various civilian men and women doing day to day chores or defending against outlaw or Indian attacks).

What about adding a civilian to each 19th century set, kind of like the additional Streltzi figure.
"What about adding a civilian to each 19th century set, kind of like the additional Streltzi figure." That's an excellent idea! :+1: Not just for 19th century sets.

Re: Whats about civilians?

One additional Streltzi figure would be a great idea but I would prefer complete sets of:

ACW:
Field hospital (doctors, surgeons, nurses, wounded soldiers, visitors)
Politicians (lincoln, davis, etc.)
Refugees
Cotton plantations owner with field workers with special tools
Slaves
Battlefield sightseers (as Arlin had suggested)

WW1 & WW2:
Refugees (germans, european, russian)
Life on farms & towns
Workers & Scientists
Camps

Of course, some of them could be useful for a big range of the 19th century - that would be great.

Re: Whats about civilians?

I like all of the civilian ideas. Even one civilian per set is an interesting concept. I don't use the Strelets figure, replace them with a civilian. I would buy whole sets of civilians. As mentioned before political leaders, women, children, farmers, refugees would all be useful. I think start with an ACW city people set, then a country people set would give us all we need. Do the same for 20th Century at least WWI and WWII.

Re: Whats about civilians?

I would like civilians from each decade, even if it was just a typical family for each. Like this:

1950s family & 1960s family

1970s family

And 1940s women like this:

Re: Whats about civilians?

I also thought about civil working personal since a long time now. I think there's a need for farmers, construction workers, loggers, overground-miners, shepherds, hunters, plantation workers. But if they're not generaly hold then they are needed at least for the greater cultures and epochs: indian, african-egypt, "arab", chinese, european, new world. So they can be used for the great empires and the colonies (Egypt - pyramides, ***** etc.; Maurya-India; Alexander and successors; Rome > there are Linear-B roman farmer and -worker figures but no coastal salt plantages etc.; Celts-Germans-Medieval; China: Great Wall etc.; New World: indigenous and also slave workers for mining, plantations and railway-working.

Or do i just don't know existing sets for some points (i know the New World Pilgrims)?! I hope that at any time i will be able to get such figures.

Re: Whats about civilians?

Some very good suggestions so far. :+1:
Totally agree that we could use a lot more non-military figures in 1/72 plastic.

Would be great if we could have a reasonable variety of 20th or 19th century “civilians“ (or any other reasonable period of course).

All kind of construction workers, carpenters, fitters, industrial workers, railway workers, miners, dockers, steelworkers (young to old).
Engineers, scientists, assistants & clerks.
Farmers, peasants, harvesters, different craftsmen‚ clergymen & nuns, merchants & general country folks (all ages).
Prosperous & petty bourgeoisie, servants, all kind of merchants & shopkeepers, policemen, ordinary townspeople & proletarians (all ages).
But also sick & wounded (soldiers), (military) hospital personnel (doctors, surgeons & nurses), disabled & recovering patients.
Soldiers & auxiliaries doing trenchwork or concrete & wood constructions, supply trains, non-combat situations (“camp“ or “trench“ life).
Refugees with handcarts, males & females, all ages.

Maybe Strelets could consider a few specific sets within their best established & most current ranges?
From my point of view, that would be napoleonics, WWI & WWII.

Although there are a few nice sets from Pegasus, Imex & Preiser, there is definetly space for a lot more I think.

Yes of course not to forget military personal resting in a camp and such building the fortification/habitation and supplying goods etc.!

But Strelets, please also ancient and "tricorn-times"...

What a brilliant short term solution!!!!!
What about 2 civilians per box ???

Re: Whats about civilians?

I would like to see some civilian sets - for me it would have to be full sets as I wouldn't buy a set of an era I don't collect just for a couple of bonus figures - WWII civilians or medieval or dark age people would suit me fine. A variation on this theme that would interest me would be armed civilians that could fit in about 1918-1940s. I would like to use them for VBCW but they could be used for all sorts of inter war conflicts such as Spartacist rising or even SCW and resistance/partisans.

Re: Whats about civilians?

We need really more civilian sets. I don´t share the view of very specialised civilian sets like medical crews or scientists. I like more the idea of regular people of different social classes

My favorites
Medieval civilians for towns and villages - eventually 2 sets: early and late middle ages, the first 11th-12th century, the other 14th-early 15th century
Ancient Greek/Hellenistic Civilians
Punic and phoenican civilians
Oriental civilians - they can been used for the late antique as the middle ages or Napoleons egyptian campaign
Monks and priests - theirs costumes didn´t changed much through the times, so they can fit to quite different periods
Marlburian civilians around 1700
Napoleonic civilians
ACW civilians
WW 1 civilians and refugees

I am absolutly sure there are many collectors who would buy these sets... And please more women! Eventually 40:60 women-men....and some children

I agree with you here Sansovino, we need general ancient sets, people walking around, standing still, perhaps sitting at a theater. Children walking around, playing etc. People to populate cities, villages and so on. A lot of the sets from Valdemar and others are so specialized, and furthermore, expensive. Also middle class people for Victorian London, poor people, beggars and so on, working class women etc..
