Re: British Bobbys & NYPD

Mike Bunkermeister Creek

I am looking for around 1900 for a War of the Worlds scenario, in some of the related fiction books British Bobbies were armed and fighting Martians in London. I figure NYPD uniforms are similar and would likely respond in like fashion.

The only Victorian/Edwardian figures I can think off in roughly 1/72(actually 1/76 but 23mm tall) are from Stadden Miniatures but these are intended for railway layouts, though their very nice and sort of remind me of "Gangs of New YorK".. sadly no bobbies yet... a bit static but good for a crowd:

Also these,Langley miniatures 1/76 not great but includes a fair range of Edwardian/Victorian 1920s figures:

quite a range here in 28mm but likely too big:

I dont know how big these RAFM figures are but may be 25mm or 28mm?, a few cops and others that may be usefullif not too large:

Theres tons of this kind of stuff in 15,28,32mm out their but sadly very little if anything really in 1/72 or 20mm....

So why not go for some the many 1/72 late Victorian military figures on the market and simply paint them blue:

Check out some of the gun crews for unarmed characters

Ironsides, that is the question I was trying to ask. What colonial era troops already on the market would work well for Bobbies or NYPD, circa 1900? My intention is to paint them an overall blue. I don't know enough about the helmets and weapons of colonial British troops to know what would look most like a British Bobby.

Thanks Pa, I already have those and they are too modern.

Re: British Bobbys & NYPD

The table soccer game Subbuteo had an accessories set featuring several Policemen- including one mounted and Irregular Miniatures do some in white metal as part of their 'Riot' range.

HO Bobbies (correct plural):

Re: British Bobbies & NYPD

Hi Mike

Technically 1930s as part of their VBCW range but these Irregular Miniatures give the flavour of British police of an earlier era. Really they need longer tunics. http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/

Re: British Bobbies & NYPD

Hat Zulu war British command may be your best bet, I just cannot think of any that are any closer.

Re: British Bobbies & NYPD

Thank you Alan, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Re: British Bobbies & NYPD

This pic shows the two types of helmet. One is more like a firemans and other like the Zulu War British. The cape was worn by all forces and hides a lot but the equipment would be a belt and cartridge pouch. Notice they have trousers and boots and no gaiters/anklets.

pic of Sidney St
The avatar pic looks like a 1960s/70s riot duty helmet. Met Police had the ER badge as did the RMP (Royal Military Police).

Re: British Bobbies & NYPD

Thanks David for the information.
