Open Question about Bonus Streltsi Figure Uses, Anyone Please?

Can I use my Streltsi Bonus Figures to reinact any of the battle scenes in the movie "1612"? I really like the figures, plus I've got a lot of the Polish Winged Hussars I'd like to use. Did they fight each other?

Also, what other sets should I collect to fight against, or with, the Streltsi figures? I'd like to begin with a modest, but respectable collection of armies to use these figures.

And lastly, how about Forts, Castles, Stockades for them?

Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you - GC

Re: Open Question about Bonus Streltsi Figure Uses, Anyone Please?

In the early 17th century, winged hussars differed from those that they like to produce in 1/72.

And so, the Russian-Polish wars of the 17th century, streltsi and winged hussars were inveterate enemies.

Very interesting wars. They are poorly represented in 1/72. Orion, perhaps, will begin to do.
IMHO, Strelts will do better.

Re: Open Question about Bonus Streltsi Figure Uses, Anyone Please?

Like Lovec says, the current output depicting the Hussars are only appropriate for later or maybe mid 17th century. Which is a shame as there were many interesting conflicts in the early period of that century, the many wars between Sweden and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, battles like Kircholm, Kokenhusen cannot be accurately represented.

I took the liberty of borrowing this image from an Osprey book, as can be seen the look is completely different in 1605, with the wings attached to the saddle as an example.

There are some figures for the Poles, Mars did a few poor or average sets for early and later Polish infantry, some decent figures are available in 20mm metal from Irregular miniatures, marching and standing Polish infantry that looks good but probably not appropriate for early 17th century.

The chances of seeing new Winged Hussars in correct early 17th century clothing is probably small.

Re: Open Question about Bonus Streltsi Figure Uses, Anyone Please?

I've finally collected enough to form a small Muscovite army to fight against my Poles (Winged hussars, etc) using Pikeman's Lament

I now plan to add some Soldatski by converting more Strelets into pike/shot regiments.

Cavalry are from Zvezda Russian Nobles cavalry and cossacks

Re: Open Question about Bonus Streltsi Figure Uses, Anyone Please?

GC,

Agree with the others. Additionally, you could try

Redbox Russian War Monks/Artillery (defend the Monastery or town or attach some to an army)
Redbox and Mars Polish/tartar/Cossack/Turkish foot cavalry and artillery (mostly poor sets)
Strelets Napoleonic sledges and the tartars with bows
Zvezda Cossacks and Russian Cavalry
Look at various medieval sets for suitable peasants.

I like the two Osprey books on Russian fortifications - range from simple wooden structures to grand defences. Zvezda do a Russian wooden fort (either alone or as a small town ramparts) though you could also use stone or brick forts. Plenty of Russian/Ukrainian buildings in 1/72 and 1/144. Add an Orthodox church.

I use the above for 'cossack'/'peasant' revolts up to 19c. Read Pushkin's The Captain's Daughter or the Pugachev Revolt for further ideas.

Have a great day, FPR
