Re: Japanese Type 96 with Crew

Pa
Received my first sets from the new production batch. While I cannot compete with PSR's reviews, until they are done with theirs here are my first impressions.

There are four identical sprues in the box, with one gun and five men each.

The guns constist of 10 parts each. It took me ten minutes to put the first one together. It was easy, fit is quite good. I needed to drill a hole for the sight. The whole piece holds together without glue, but for handling / wargaming you might want to use all plastics glue.

You can move the barrel vertically and horizontally. The gun carriage seems to be in the transport position. You can always cut the trail end piece into two and spread the carriage trails in order to simulate a firing position. Since pictures of this gun in the AT configuration are so rare, I am unable to say if the trails were spread at all. If they are not spread, the gunner is tricky to put into position behind the gun.

The sculpting of the figures is very good, lots of detail and nice faces. Sizewise they fit well between Airfix or Caesar figures, which I feel is the right size for 1/72 Japanes men. I plan to use some of them as gunners for field artillery pieces.

All round a very worthwile investment - well done Strelets! Regards, Pa
A bit OT, but what drills do you use? Which are best for 1/72?

Re: Japanese Type 96 with Crew

Which drills? Nothing fancy really. They are hand held twist drills of 0,3 to 1,2 mm diameter. It took some time to find them since they were neither available in hardware nor hobby stores but rather in Computer / electronics shops.

I find the ones just under 1 mm ideal for headswaps on figures - cut the head, drill a hole, insert a lenght of steel wire, put another head onto it with a pre-drilled hole, and if necessary secure the bond with white glue. The smallest ones are excellent to open model gun muzzles or exhaust pipes.

The >10 bucks were a good investiment I'd say. Regards, Pa
