The 7th hussars: Best advice, find a good solid wall to bang your head against.
According to Digby Smith:
The 7th(Bis) Hussars in 1812, Dark green dolman with red collar & cuffs, dark green pelisse, yellow lace, red breeches, green shako with red & white plume.
But at the bottom right of this pic the 7th are shown with a red pelisse at the time of the Egyptian campaign, which matches Strelets box art.
To confuse things further most pictures of them have them in blue with either red or blue trousers (this may be due to overalls worn over the breeches on campaign being a different colour but that's just my speculation).
I had the same trouble when I was painting La Salle. In the end I decided to paint him blue and tell people it's green so that all of my confusion is transferred onto them. Which, I think, is a better place for it.
The 22nd Chasseurs a Cheval also wore hussar type dolmans at this time. green dolman with dark orange collar & cuffs piped green, and green breeches. Helpfully I think their green looked green.
British light dragoons should have a fairly standard uniform with just regimental facing colours on the collar & cuffs of the dolman. some pics of them here:
Re: Colors of Strelets Napoleonic Egyptian Figures?
Thanks very much for your time and assistance. I have a copy of Liliane and Fred Funken Le Costume et les arms de soldats de tous les temps with a plate showing many French soldiers Armee D'Egypte dressed mostly in red (which would make confusion on the diorama/Battlefield). Talk about "bang your head on a wall"!
