ww2 leaders

Dear strelets,
I have a splendid (at least I think so) idea.
What about a "ww2 generals and leaders" set (or 2 of them).
Some manufacturers have made some efforts, but I think that you are the best for something like this. Imagine:
British: Churchill (with a cigar), Slim, Alexander, Monty, Mountbatten, Tedder etc
Soviets: Stalin, Zhukov, Konev, Budyonny, Rokossovsky,
Americans: Roosevelt (on a chair), Patton, Eisenhower, MacArthur (with a pipe), Bradley, Nimitz etc
Germany-Italy: Hitler, Himmler, Mussolini, Goering, Manstein, Rundstedt, Rommel, Paulus Kesserling, etc
Japan: Tojo, Hirohito (on a horse), Yamamoto, Yamasita, Kuribayashi etc

I think, such a project would be a best seller (even with a little higher price)!!!

Not sure if they would they would sell enough to make them viable except the German set . I would leave that to Kaiser Miniatures as they seem to concentrate on the third Reic

You see to have missed out a British admiral - Max Horton is the obvious choice. if you have never heard of him look him up as he is a remarkable character.

Re: ww2 leaders

sure Horton should be a great choice.
But I insist on:
If Confederate General Staff, or Napoleon's General Staff, have made reissues and (I believe) good sales, why Staffs of the most "popular" conflict of the world shouldn't make great sales.
These sets (not to mention Chairman Mao, Chiang Kai Shek, Leclerc, De Gaulle etc) should be "must buy" sets. All of us should buy all of them.
These sets could be benchmarks for every set to follow. "Strelets" could write history.

Those people were actually on the battlefield, while WW2 generals for the most part sit in the rear, commanding their armies from there. You can field Napoleon on the battlefield, but Churchill would be hardly suitable for an engagement in Normandy.

Re: ww2 leaders

Marios, thanks for the links and taking the time and trouble to post all your comments. I support your proposal.

If there is a market for the numerous Napoleonic command/staff sets then there surely is a bigger market for the WWII leaders in my opinion. Even "non-combatant" leaders such as Churchill would have uses for me - I see a scenario taken from the 1976 film "The Eagle has Landed" where German Paras try to kidnap Churchill from a mansion in England! The beauty of our hobby is that you can do anything you want. :-)

By the way, given the number of single WWII leader figures made by Caesar Miniatures (as listed at the minitoysoldier site) it appears, perhaps, that a combined WWII leader set is being covertly and gradually assembled by Caesar themselves?

Re: ww2 leaders

Leclerc, De Gaulle... possibly Ykreol French Commanders

Mao,Lenin, Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler:

Roco Minitanks did a set as well.. which I believe includes Churchill, Mussolini, Hitler etc... HO but as I recall large for that scale, you can still find them:

Airfix type 1 Afrika Korps Rommel, Matchbox/Revell 8th Army Monty.. twice one with Montys Caravan kit...

Also Rommel sits in the back of the Aifix Storch kit.

Airfix US Paratroopers John Wayne

Thats by no means the end...

Re: ww2 leaders

Thanks for that Ironsides. So with so many various sets out there to buy/collect, it would be easier if Strelets could just make only one set of WWII leaders/general staff for us!

Re: ww2 leaders

Yeah, that is the spirit!!

Re: ww2 leaders

Theres been at least ten sets for sale on Ebay in europe since August almost all suprisingly from Belgium the lowest price sold for 12-13€... that doesn't include any that are currently going...

Re: ww2 leaders

Alas, 1/87 scale is too small for my 1/72 forces. The new Strelets WWII "Japanese troops in tropical uniform" set is beautiful but sadly are noticeably bigger compared to both my Airfix and ESCI Japanese infantry (which I suspect are closer to 1/76 - 1/87 even though their boxes are labelled as 1/72). Anyone else noticed that?

Re: ww2 leaders

seems to be a very good set but in the wrong scale. Imagine, Churcill who was 1.65 m tall, now only 1.37m (Tyrion size) !!!
And 20 bids and a price of 18,5 euros so far!!!
I think that best seller theory is the right one...

Re: ww2 leaders

I don't collect WWII figures, but if I did I'd definitely buy a set like this. Actually if Strelets made a set with the major figures from history and it was sitting on the shelf at my local hobby shop I might just be tempted anyway. As for British Admirals if you put ABC in the set I think I will have to buy it.

I would buy a personality set for WWI and as for them not being on the battlefield, Pah! I would love to put Haigh in a frontline trench and shell him for three days to see how his moral fibre holds up.

I could use figures for Cumberland and Prince Charlie and other figures from the Jacobite rebellion ( except for Lord George, I've got Lord George sorted). no problem putting these guys on a battlefield but we need a figure of Johnny Cope running away from one

I love Strelets Napoleonic personality sets, I think it's good to have recognisable figures for historical characters and it's something Strelets does well. Why not WWII personalities? You could use them as markers for major objectives or just for decoration, They did sometimes visit the general vicinity of the front line.
