large roman army: almost a thousand miniatures painted

Some of the forumers already know my project : recreating the late roman army in Gaul at the end of the fourth century, at the 1/1O scale : one miniature stands for 10 real mens.
Using the notitia dignitatum, a roman document wich gives us names, location, operationnal speciality (heavy infantry, light cavalry, "commandos"...) and shield patterns, i painted my figurines unit by unit. I used figs from every manufacturer wich proposed sets on this era : MiniArt, Italeri, Hät, Lucky toys, Atlantic...
The largest unit is composed by 80 miniatures, the smallest 25.
here some examples :
heavy cavalry of Equites Primi Gallicani (24 horsemen) : https://comitatusgaulois.wordpress.com/2016/09/09/equites-primi-gallicani-premier-de-cavalerie-gauloise/
Legio of the Cortoriacenses, based and recruited in the actual Belgium (44 infantrymen):https://comitatusgaulois.wordpress.com/2016/08/19/cortoriacenses/
Auxilium of mattiaci iuniores Gallicani (41 infrantryman) : https://comitatusgaulois.wordpress.com/2016/03/20/mattiaci-iuniores-gallicani-mattiaques-juniors-gaulois/
an anothe auxilium of Mattiaci, the senior counterpart (very difficult to paint that shield pattern on those 41 bods) : https://comitatusgaulois.wordpress.com/2016/02/23/mattiaci-seniores-mattiaques-seniors/
a burgus, the small roman forts on rhine border : https://comitatusgaulois.wordpress.com/2016/02/28/fort-romain-burgus/
the best legio of the Empire, the Ioviani seniores (54) :

Barbarian in roman service : the noble alans of the comites alani (24):

you can see many other units on this website : https://comitatusgaulois.wordpress.com/

Re: large roman army: almost a thousand miniatures painted

Dear Chariobaude,
Amazing work, you are a very gifted artist, I have a few questions for you:

What brand of paints are you using to paint your figures and what kind of a
camera (cellphone?) are you using to take the pictures with?

Thank-you,
Paul K.

Hello, thank you for such nice words !

1. i use Prince August for those figs. I know that there is consensus among miniature lovers on Vallejo, but i use this brand for years now and i'm very happy with it.

2. Yes, i took the picture with my old iPhone, and this is a problem : close ups are a bit fuzzy, but the main problem is the depth of field. !it is very hard to take pics of a big army.
For instance i tried with more of less 500-600 roman legionnaires here : https://comitatusgaulois.wordpress.com/2016/08/14/late-roman-army-in-miniatures/ and i'm not very happy with the result.

I'll retry later (but with more troops), and more elements of decoration (i've now more than 40 trees for example...).

regards,
C.
