Re: Republican Romans enemies

My votes

* Strelets - "Civil wars will also be possible utilising same sets, may be made in different colours" - Yes, please! (And the Legion and Auxilliaries also, please)

* CC - Yes, please to all CC's recommendations also.

I am very much enjoying the S*R Range of Romans and her Enemies. The sculpting is beautiful on all of the sets and very consistent in quality, colors, poses, and enjoyment.

I did set-up an Airfix Roman Fort yesterday and the S*R Legion and Auxilliaries look great defending her walls. The Mile Fort really is highly collectible with excellent details. Now that I've got some excellent Romans to put in it, I think it is probably the best of all the Airfix Fort sets.

I have yet to desprew the Velites/Archers and see how they look with the Atlantic Seige Tower and Catapult but I'm excited about it.

This is one of those ranges, like S*R's other ranges and MARX's many classic ranges, that with each new set that comes out - whether a new addition or a re-release in a new color, makes them all that much more collectible.

For this weekend, I didn't get to see the movie Gladiator yet. We bought the British series "Doc Martin" and watched both of the original movies and will begin Season 1 of 5 probably tonight. We are also big fans of British humor. "Faulty Towers" is another of my favorites.

Keep up the good work over there Mates!

Re: Republican Romans enemies: Gauls!

Republic Romans enemies are plenty on the market already I think. Gauls from most of the big manufacters. To less enemies for the gauls imo

Re: Republican Romans enemies

plese when you make those spartacus sets please not make those mini sets for instance i used only one spure of that first set but what shall i do with four spartacus figures?

Re: Republican Romans enemies

After the Spartacus sets, I vote for Mithridates.

Also how about a set of Britons to fight the Imperial Legions of Claudius?

Re: Republican Romans enemies

I second that one for Mithridates. Actually, you could probably just do a series of generic sets of Hellenistic Greek enemies for the Romans, which would encompass the Late Macedonians, Seleucids and Mithridatids. A heavy infantry phalanx, Roman-influenced medium infantry like Thereuphoroi, two sets of light infantry (Greek-style and Eastern-style), armoured heavies, Greek-style medium cavalry, Asiatic light horsemen and some 'phants would do it.

Re: Republican Romans enemies

strlets can you answer my question please!!!

Re: Republican Romans enemies

I second the Hellenistic Army of Mithridates. Those troops would be most versatil to use. The Hellenistic Armament was used by all the Mediterrean Armies of the Koine like Carthage, all Hellas, the Eastern realms, the Seleucids and the Hellenistic Egyptians/Ptolemaic Armies.

What sets would be needed to represent these troops?

1. Sarissa Phalanx - maybe two combat sets (one western in Tunica, the Eastern with trousers?), marching and before.

2. The troops on the wings: Hypaspisten, Thureophoroi, Thorakitai, Immitation Legionaries

3. Light Troops: Psiloi, Cretan Archers, Rhodian Slingers, Thracians, Pisidians

4. Macedonian Style Companions, Thessalians,Seleucian Cataphractoi

5. Elephants: Indian, African, Northern African with an without towers

Re: Republican Romans enemies

This is about the time Israel came under Roman control. Perhaps some Israelites would make a good set. If not for this period then some Zealots to fight the Imperial legions would be nice.
