Other acts on J.O.K show - St Margaret Mary's Children's Choir

Hi there

I am hoping someone can help with this, I would love to find some old footage of my Mum who was in the St Margaret Mary's Children's Choir in Sydney. The Choir appeared on the J.O.K shows a couple of times when it was on the ABC and also Channel 7. I know J.O.K taught my very young mother (perhaps 8) how to eat spaghetti bolognaise properly by wrapping it around her fork in the cafeteria at one of the T.V stations. She doesn't know I am doing this, as I would love to surprise her, so am only vaguely remembering that one of her appearances was once with the Bee Gee's who were also very young boys. She would have been on around the years 1963-67? She was quite young and was born in 1953 anyway. It would be great if someone had some information on how to find out when she was on any of the shows or where do I go and look. Have attempted a few "googles" but so far no luck. If you can help or have any suggestions please send a reply. Thanks for reading anyway and I hope someone can help, smiles, Shannon.

Re: Other acts on J.O.K show - St Margaret Mary's Children's Choir

Hello Shannon,

Unfortunately there is very little footage left of any of the shows that J.O'K was on. The ABC have not quite 2 episodes of Six O'Clock Rock and but there is no choir on them and it was too early for the Bee Gees.

ATN7 with Sing Sing Sing and The Johnny O'Keefe Show also do not have any shows saved, but there are a few shows in collectors hands floating around. To my knowledge there is no choir on them nor any Bee Gee appearances.

If we get the time we will check and post back anything here only if there IS footage of the choir.

In the meantime you might try some second hand record stores just in case they can help. A long shot, but it might be worth it.

Good luck!

Hi Shannon

Chances are you wont ever see this - your message is ten years old! But I was looking around for anything on the choir and came across your request. I was probably a year after your mum at school but was on all the TV shows with Johnny O'Keefe, Leslie Uggams, Claire Dunne and Col Joye. Definitely remember the Bee Gees show! Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs were also on as was Jay Justin and Roland Storm. Definitely old school. :) The only footage I have ever been able to find is a Youtube video. If you search for Johnny O'Keefe and "Pretty Paper" you will see some fairly grainy footage of him singing with the choir in the background. Unfortunately it's the best I can do. I'm in it as are a few people I recognise, but it's not easy to see. My name was Kerry Simpson and my sister Anne was a year older though she was not in the choir. Who is your mum?
Hope this is of some use to you.
Cheers
Kerry
