A waning Moon is generally best, as there is less likelihood of hemorraging when its light is decreasing. The Moon is particularly protective in soft aspect to the 1st cusp and/or the ruler of the patient's natal Ascendant. Try to avoid any hard aspects between the Moon and Mars or Saturn.




At the time of surgery the sign ruling the part of the body to undergo surgery should NOT contain the Moon, nor should it be rising; nor should that sign be on the 8th or 12th cusp or contain the ruler of the 8th or 12th house. For extra protection, try to have Jupiter or Venus in the 1st or 10th house at the time of surgery.




If you use Arabian Parts, the formula for the Part of Surgery is Ascendant plus Saturn minus Mars. Try to have the resulting point in trine to the Ascendant, or to Jupiter or Venus in the 1st, at the time of surgery. It should NOT be afflicted in the 1st, 4th or 8th, nor should it be in hard aspect to Mars, Saturn or the Moon (a Lunar conjunction is OK if the Moon is unafflicted).




It's unlikely that you can arrange for all of the above conditions, but the more the better.
