Police took my rifle......why??!

having got my HW95k for Xmas i was really happy, until now!
This morning i went out into my garden to see a feral pigeon on MY roof, so i got my rifle and popped it. It flapped about quite alot moving across the roofs as it wasnt killed stoned dead. Eventualy it rolled down landing in my neighbors garden who happens to be a bird lover.i was going to retrieve it but the circumstances didnt allow as i would have had to climb a large rickety fence which most likely would have broke under my weight.
i continued to shoot my cans and variouse other targets down the garden when i heard a loud voice say "if u shoot another F***ing im guna ring the police!"
At this point i felt it a good time to make my way indoors and got ready for school.
when i came home it had transpired that 3 police officers turned up at my door, came in, asked to see my rifle, took it, took my pellets, left and refused to give my mums partner (the only person in at the time as was off sick) a receipt and thus we have no proof they even took my rifle.
I am to go into the police station tommorrow for an interview which i am not one pbit worried about, however i am worried about whether or not i will infact have my rifle returned, it was brand new only bought this Xmas and i had saved up for it for months.
Can anyone shed some light on the situation? did i actualy commit a crime which constitutes having my rifle confiscated?
Any input would be greatly appreciated, Joe x

yeah callum your right, just got back on a warning, the officer said it was because i shot a feral pigeon, which he seemed to think were protected by the wildlife conservation act, despite the fact that all the research i have done says otherwise.
i pointed this out to him at which point he said "well im not going to argue with you".
i have my rifle back no un-scaved so im happy again

Re: Police took my rifle......why??!

hi joe sorry to here your bad news.
you havn.t stated how old you are because the law is very strict on the age limit ie was you under age to shoot on your own.
when you shot that pigeon you shot out of what is known as your privacy zone you should only shoot within your own bounday and you pellett should not exeed that. thats the ( law ) and how did you know it wasn.t a homing pigeon that belongs to some one
what you need to do is go the police with one your parents and see if you can have it back reassuring them it wont happen again and only shoot targets with a suitable backs stop so it stops the pellett from going beyond your boundary.
always remember practice safe shooting
