Re: Ramon Family ( Trindad Ramon/ Tomasa Vasquez or Balque
Hello Akeem,
It is so nice to meet you via email. Thank you for the offer of the headstone photo. I also have it. I have been using that to reach out to the Bexar historical society, unfortunately, they haven't come up with any additional information. I believe your name showed up on Ancestry as a distant cousin - its good to know the familial connection.
I had someone share the info on Captain Diego Ramon but I have not found a connection yet. There is also a proposal that Captain Pedro de la Garza could possibly be Trinidad's father but I haven't had any luck there. Maybe because Trinidad was a Presidio soldier, the military connection would make sense.
I'd love to work with you on unraveling the Ramon Family lineage; let's work together to solve the mystery. Are you on Facebook?
Re: Ramon Family ( Trindad Ramon/ Tomasa Vasquez or Balque
Hello Sheila and Akeem,
I am also a descendant of Trinidad Ramon and Tomasa Vasquez through two daughters.
Maria Josefa Ramon married Augustin Severin Mateo March 31, 1825 in St Landry Parish my 4X Great grandparents. There daughter Marie Louise Mateo married Auguste Durousseau my 3X Great Grandfather.
Maria's sister Gertrude Ramon married Jean Baptiste Durousseau my 3X Great Grandfather.
Auguste and Jean Baptiste were brothers and my 2X Great Grandparents (Augustin and Clara Veronique Durousseau) first cousins.
My thoughts Maria Josefa Ramon arrived in St Landry abt 1825 from La Bahia (present day San Antonio). I know ST Landry parish to Texas (old Spanish Trail) was a major cattle route and the Durousseau brothers owned cattle and homes near Pot Cove Mallet Louisiana across from St Annes Church on Hwy 90 (Old Spanish Trail).
Mexico Independence from Spain September 16, 1810.
Texas Independence from Mexico March 2, 1836.
Would like to know what historical event occurred around 1825 to prompt Maria Josefa Ramon to leave San Antonio? Any thoughts?
