"Shelter Walkers" A short film that everybody should see (Long post)

Hello to all...I know it has been a long time since I have posted on the forum. I do check in though, and while I'm not posting a response, I still laugh, cry, and cheer right along with all of you.

Of the many things that seem to keep me from having the time I would like to have to post more often is my rescue work with GRRR. Since so many here do rescue work themselves or own a rescued dog, or even if you don't do rescue work or own a rescued dog, this is a must see. The heart of the film is about a tremendous love of dogs, and each one of us shares that common bond.

I received this email from a fellow rescuer friend who lives in Texas. She runs a rescue group called "Hutts for Mutts", and has been the voice for homeless mixed breed dogs in her rural Texas area for a number of years.

Well, a friend of Marion's sent this to her, and she too thought it was worth sharing. This friends' roommate wrote and produced this short film. It is so powerful...There are no horrible images in the film, but it still brings tears to my eyes. The emotion heard in these people's voices as they speak about the homeless animals they are trying to save is the same emotion I know I have heard in my own voice many times. I bet you will recognize hearing it in your own voice at some point as well.

The link to the film will need to be copied and pasted since the hyperlink didn't copy over. It's well worth doing so though. Enjoy, and please hug the dog or dogs that share your lives tonight. I wish all dogs could be as lucky as our own.

Subject: "Shelter Walkers" A Short Film that needs to be seen by everyone, especially the general public!!

PERMISSION GRANTED TO CROSS POST WIDELY

Dear fellow rescuers,

I am very pleased and proud to announce that my friend and roommate, who is a full-time student of film, has written and produced this short documentary entitled: "Shelter Walkers" (click here to view) http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=23821580

Featuring our very own shelter walkers - Russell Posch, Debbie Barclay and Maggie Dahl - volunteers at Irving, Grand Prairie and Dallas shelters. These are just three of so many people who, on a daily basis, bravely, tirelessly, and selflessly give of themselves, their time and their hearts, to walk through shelters, take pictures, write bios, and send the information about these dogs out to us - networking hundreds of their postings - in hopes of saving some of these dogs in desperate need of rescue as their time ticks away.

Three months ago, Sharie knew very little about the workings of the rescue community. Of course, I filled her in~! After listening and questioning about what many of us do, trying to make a difference, she was compelled to do what she could to help. She decided she would focus her class-assigned documentary on the plight of shelter dogs, starting with the front line people...the shelter walkers.

Please watch the video (nothing gruesome or upsetting in it, I promise) and forward the link to your friends, co-workers, family, and anyone else you can think of. If you have any ideas on how to get this educational and enlightening message out to television stations, schools, boys & girls clubs, and families everywhere, I'm sure Sharie can send you copies of the DVD upon request. You can contact her at redoakgal@yahoo.com. And don't forget to congratulate her on her huge accomplishment, which included countless hours with her camera, in the studio, and in front of her computer putting this piece together - which earned her an 'A' in her class! She also adopted one of the dogs brought in to the Irving shelter on a day she was filming there!!

She tells me this is only part one of a series she is planning...the others will include those individuals that focus on networking, fostering and adoptions, transportation coordination and educators in the community.

On behalf of the entire rescue community, THANK YOU!!!

Wow. Where would we, and the animals, be without so many wonderful, caring people? Maybe some day our 'advanced' civilization will realize the value of life and stop treating dogs and cats as disposable commodities.

Re: "Shelter Walkers" A short film that everybody should see (Long post)

Staci, I think that a wonderfully done video. Hopefully, the message reaches lots of folks, most importantly the owners who think their dogs will get adopted.

What a touching and poignant film of shelter dogs and caring people who try to make a difference. Another reminder to spay and neuter........although the responsible dog owners are probably the ones who will see this film and have already neutered their pet.
Thanks for sharing.

My one regret for that movie, is those who need most to see it, will probably be the least likely to.

It was good though.

This wouldn't work for me. Did anyone else have problems pulling up the video?

I'm a little late in getting to this, but what a great film.
