Hi everyone, haven't posted in a while. Was and still am depressed since Tacia's passing. Now another delema. Trooper needs extensive surgery on his left elbow. You all know he is an actively working therapy dog. Hasn;t been able to work due to severe lameness after visits. X rays confirm severe elbow dysplasia with fragmented pieces of bone. Arthroscopic surgery needs to be done to remove the bone fragments. Without surgery Trooper will not be able to work again and can acquire even more permanent damage to this elbow. Started on Rimadyl (yuck). Question to anyone out there is if they know of someplace where I can apply for a grant for this very special therapy dog to help cover the cost of the not so cheap surgery.Trooper is definetly a miracle in his own right and deserves the best I can give him. I just need a little help. Any informtin would be appreciated. Trooper on house arrest until surgery date. Loks like it could be as early as two weeks from now. Have you checked the Goldstock Fun? It is www.goldstockfund.org. They have funded some medical expenses for rescues, but they also do individual cases.

I feel that Trooper has such an outstanding history that they should be happy to help.

First of all... sending you a hug, as you work through this need for Trooper's surgery. It feels unfair that something like this happens while we are still grieving another golden loss. Tacia will be with you always.

I was going to suggest the Goldstock Fund also (think PJ just did this?) as they have donated funds for several of our GRIN (Ohio rescue) dogs.

Kim, I'm so sorry to hear that Trooper is needing surgery. And, I know you miss Tacia terribly; time helps the healing process, but these special pups are forever in our hearts. I hope you receive good news from Goldstock Fund, and Trooper will be good as new in no time. I'm sure he misses his therapy work! What a special guy he is!

Goldstock said they only help rescue goldens in need. I have emailed the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association as well as the American Animal Health Association. I figure it can't hurt to try several places and see what comes about. Trooper feeling better since on Rimadyl and Tramadol. Stil hard to keep in down though, he misses working and I know the kids and the staff at the hospitals miss him too. Will keep you updated on his surgery.

I'm sure everything will go well. Tucker had the same surgery last Friday, came home on Saturday, and by that afternoon, he was up enjoying a walk around the yard. Amazing, even right after surgery, he felt better than when he went in because the bone fragments (which the doctor described as feeling like "you had a rock in your shoe and every time you stepped down on it,it hurts)were gone.

We're lucky enough to live in Houston and have access to Gulf Coast Vet Clinic (referral clinic only with incredible specialists), so I felt very confident with their diagnosis and treatment). Every other vet we had taken him to diagnosed arthritis????

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. The biggest problem you'll probably have is Trooper wanting to do too much too soon, as our vet requires 2 weeks of only short leash-controlled outings.

P.S. IT IS expensive - 3500.00 - the husband made all kinds of remarks that we could buy one, two, three..........brand new healthy dogs for the price, but he paid the bill without cringing (too much).
