Sunday Social - traveling

Good Morning!

Today's Topic:
As I get ready to go on a big trip I worry more and more about leaving my boys behind. What do you do with your dog/s when you travel? This time I can't take them with me. I'm gong to Ireland for 3 weeks with a friend. I have a familiar house sitter staying here with the boys while I'm gone. He has been sitting with them for a few years and they love him. But it is still so hard to leave them.

Do you get a house sitter? Do you kennel your dog/s? I have never kenneled mine but know of people who have favorite places that their dog/s seem to love. How much do you pay your house sitter or kennel? Or do you only travel places where you can take your dog/s?

Have a GoldenDay!
Debbie

PS. I am hoping that Susan Marie will take over the Sunday Social for the next 3 weeks. And if anyone has an idea for a topic, jump in and either let us know or post it yourself.

I'll try :) I am a little better with contests so maybe we will mix it up a bit. Any suggestions would be great.
As for traveling, the only time I leave my girls is to come see you Debbie, and their Dad's are still home to take care of them. I just don't like being without them. I don't have a good time because I worry so much. Which is why we bought the cabin.:) If push came to shove, I would have a house sitter, I would never kennel them.

For Montana, I had family come to the house 3 times a day to feed, walk and sit with him a while. For Zoe and Barney my Niece would stay at my house, that was the best option. For Crystal recently I had a friend take mornings, and family the rest of the day. I have a parrot too, who can get feisty by day 4 but my sitters know how to handle her. I would only kennel mine if it was the only option I had.

Debbie enjoy Ireland I hope to make that trip someday.

Re: Sunday Social - traveling

I am lucky in that the dogs have always gone up to my sisters for our longer vacations. If we are only gone for a long weekend we have a great pet sitter (who is also a vet tech) who comes and stays at the house. All of the dogs have always loved her.

Off topic, have a great time in Ireland. Last June we were there for a week for a bicycle tour in the Connemara region. We flew into Dublin, spent a day or so sightseeing, and then took the train over to Galway where we started our trip. We then took a side trip out to Aran Islands (Inishmore)where we also had a fabulous time with our bikes sightseeing.

Re: Sunday Social - traveling

I have done a little bit of everything to take care of my dogs when I travel. When Julia lived at home, she was the primary caretaker, with help from a professional dog sitter who came over to let the girls out or feed them as needed. Recently one of her friends came by the home to spend time with them when Julia was working after school. And I boarded them in a local kennel for part of the time. First time they had been boarded, and they did great.
