Macie's Vet Visit

Macie had her regular visit with the vet last night to get her second set of shots. Everything was going great, my husband and I were asking lots of questions as the doc sat on the floor playing and stroking Macie. All of a sudden she says "what's this" and I was like "what's what". We looked at her belly and she had very red and sore looking cyst the size of a marble. I had not noticed it at all the day before when I was rubbing her belly. At first she thought it might be a bug bite but upon further exam she noticed several other (probably 3) very small bump like cysts the size of small peas. They weren't red like the other one but they were definitely not normal. She ending up having to lance it, since she felt it was infected. She sent a sample of the fluid to the lab to try and figure out what it was. So now she's on antibiotics, and has to wear the collar of shame until it heals. I've never seen anything like this. Haley had fatty tumors but they were totally different. She decided to wait until next week for her second set of shots. We'll find out the results from the lab on Saturday.

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

Sending you and Macie lots of good thoughts while you wait for the lab report. Hopefully, the antibiotics will take care of the infection immediately. Please give Macie a gentle hug for me! I'm sure she'll be a happy girl again when the collar of shame comes off!

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

Carol, I'm sorry your little girl has a weird growth. Fingers crossed that it was just debris getting into a little scratch or something really easy. Poor Macie, starting the cone of shame so early in life

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

Poor Macie I bet she is shocked by the collar of shame too! I hope it gets better quickly!

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

What a bummer. I sure hope it's easily treated. Poor thing in the cone of shame. Sending lots of healing thoughts your way.

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

Oh poor little Macie, and having to wear the cone. Hopefully she just thinks it's a fashion accessory. Hoping it just turns out to be some sort of bug bite she had a reaction to. Keep us posted!

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

Oh poor little Marcie. Hope whatever it is heals up nicely and doesn't cause future problems. Let us know if the lab finds anything definitive. I'm curious if it's an allergy, bug bite or whatever.

I hope that Macie is doing better. Give us an update! PJ

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

Finally got the results from the lab work done on Macie's cyst last week. I was told it was a bacteria liken to a staph infection....She's fine now and all bumps have gone away, but I'm a little concerned as to how she could have contacted something like that. The Vet said a scratch or something similar could have caused it...I never knew. Anyway, she's back to her old wild and crazy girl self....heaven help me please!

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

Carol, when these little ones are still so low to the ground, it's easy for them to get a little scratch from something that we don't even notice. Add a little dirt or even fecal matter and you've got a bacterial infection. Thank goodness that's all it was and Macie's back to snuff!!!!

Re: Macie's Vet Visit

I'm happy to hear Macie is doing fine! Thank you for the update.
