Winter shots

The coldest winter in our area in 20 years . . . . average daytime high of minus 12.5 C for February but I couldn't remember when it got that high since I seemed to be out running in minus 18 to minus 25 C all the time.

Last Saturday it was minus 32 C with a windchill well into the minus 40's. A week later, today, it's plus 9 and melting like crazy. Chinook Arch.

Some winter scenes recently . . . .

Pete on the fly . . .

Ruby in a cold breeze - about minus 25 C here. The fence is five feet high but drifting was such they could stand on all fours and look over the top.

Below, the view from our deck, elk on the move at sunset.

Pete on alert. One of the farm dogs comes up to visit them at the fence. Not an enemy.

Deep snowsplorations, led by Pete

Ruby chillaxes at sunset

Below, standing on their pile of snow, ever alert . . . .

. . . . and then their off to battle an imagined enemy.

Below, hoar-frost encrusted morning, Pete heads home

Ruby

A bitterly cold morning

Below, sunrise through the hoar-frost.

Pete out west, highway walking on a warmer day in January.

Re: Winter shots

Wonderful photos, both of scenery and the dynamic duo. Are you using a machine to create that large snow pile or good, old-fashioned sweat equity? Take heart, we just have to get through March and part of April and then you'll be hot when you're out there beating up your body!!!

Re: Winter shots

WOW! Thinking back to when you first got Pete & Ruby - and what an awesome duo they've become! As always, LOVE the pictures!

Re: Winter shots

Enjoyed your pictures Rick and Ruby & Pete are looking good. I am jealous of the Elk moving through your area. I never tire of watching them. So sorry you have had such a cold winter, we have too but we haven't had much snow (except for the one big blizzard in October). Of course we usually get those in the Spring, so it's not over yet. Supposed to be warm and sunny tomorrow though

Re: Winter shots

Love the pictures Rick. And as always, every time I see Ruby she has Sunny's face. They look so happy. Thanks for sharing.

Spring isn't far away Rick!

Re: Winter shots

My favorite photo is: Pete on alert. The scenery is surreal.
Thanks for posting.

Beautiful pictures. Always love seeing your happy dogs - they are sooo lucky.

Re: Winter shots

I loved seeing the photographs!

We have more giant piles of snow than I wish to contemplate, but they are quickly melting as we get into forty degrees temps.

Re: Winter shots

Rick, Amazing photos as usual. We have come to have high expectations of your shots and you never let us down. Pete and Ruby look great! Pete on the fly is a phenomenal capture. I hope you'll enter it and some others in the GRRR calendar contest (hint hint).

I'm glad you are finally coming out of the deep freeze. Thanks for sharing your lovely furkidz with us!

Re: Winter shots

Great photographs. Pete and Ruby are looking terrific!!

Coldest winter in 20 years here in Ottawa too. It's been a long, cold and snowy winter. Faith and Gemma are loving it though.

Thanks for sharing your photos! I always love seeing them.

Re: Winter shots

Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures again! Pete and Ruby look so wonderful with their full coats. Every time I complain about our winter weather (and it has been unusual here in OH...) I remember what your temperatures can get to... sometimes I stop complaining. notice. Sometimes.

Anticipating 7 degrees F. coming on Tuesday night...

Re: Winter shots

"off to battle an imagined enemy" is so cool. What a shot. I hope you get some warmer weathe soon for your hikes.

Re: Winter shots

It warmed up dramatically late last week. It was minus 32 C with a wind chill well into the minus 40's the previous Saturday and then plus C temperatures the next Saturday. Chinook Arch.

So, the Great Melt is underway . . . . but there's a lot to melt. Flooding concerns.

Above freezing temperatures and quite balmy right now.
