Re: Is it Friday today?

Re: Is it Friday today?

Mid 19th century , so us Brits go to are, Crimea and Indian mutiny (first war of independence), the officer would work, but the infantryman loading would not at first glance , so maybe ACW , the soft peaked cap was common early war, and everything else fits, so my guess is ACW.

Re: Is it Friday today?

The more I look the more I think that they are US infantry for the Mexican War. The kit on the soldier looks so identical to what they wore, and the peaked caps are a perfect match. If it is the start of a new Mexican War range I would be so excited

Re: Is it Friday today?

Haha,

how nice to see such great figures being sculpted for us. Thank you for that!

Judging by the very unique moustache of the officer, my guess would be that this set is the Imperial Czarist army during the Crimean War 1853-1856. Perhaps Naval Infantry defending Sevastopol????

Re: Is it Friday today?

I'd say that you are on the money there Jan.

After initially appreciating the figures, but thinking 'not for me', I am considering the huge potential for conversion of these simply attired figures, forwards or backwards from 1854-55. A bit of putty, probably adding a back pack, change of headgear for some and I'll have some interesting and unique Prussian or Austrian landwehr. A shave for the officer, change his revolver for a flintlock, sword, or perhaps a flag as an ensign.

Regardless, it will be great to see the full set, in time. Beaut stuff.

Re: Is it Friday today?

I don’t think they’d be Crimean War simply because Strelets have done an entire range for that already. Although if they redid it I wouldn’t be complaining. Your comment also made me think, could these be used for 1877 Russo-Turkish War? I would be pretty happy with either of those options honestly.

Re: Is it Friday today?

Dear Asher,
I originally had similar thoughts to you regarding the Crimean War and also wondered if they could be an expansion of Strelets’ fabulous figs for 1877-78, guard infantry perhaps? However, the muzzle-loader limits them to early 19thC and a quick search for paintings of the siege of Sevastapol suggests that Jan is on the money.

Added to that it is a quiet doffing to Ukraine’s defenders through the years…

It’s interesting to muse isn’t it?

No doubt others who know more of post-Napoleonic times will add further ideas and we’ll know; in time.
Cheers James

Re: Is it Friday today?

Ah I completely forgot that by 1877 the Russians were using Krnk rifles and everything was breech loading. So that eliminates that possibility. I’m gonna throw my lot in with these being for the Mexican American War still, but I have a feeling I’ll be wanting these regardless. I love anything mid 19th century really. As you said, we’ll know in time!

Re: Is it Friday today?

Anyway, these figures look promising. I hope it could be something about the Crimean War or the Russian-Turkish War of 1877 (a new set would be nice, because the rest are very old and in an old style). Strelets now makes figures of much better quality.

Re: Is it Friday today?

I was hoping for the WW1 German and Saxon sets, but the figure loading his rifle is also a surprise.
So a tantalising set!!!

I know that Linear A announced they have 3 sets of wwi Germans in the works, once of which happens to be Saxons. Although with how many announced sets they have it’s hard to say when these might be released.
