Re: New Caesar sets

Hello Strelets,

Thank you very much for the time taken to provide your insightful thoughts. I see there are financial challenges these days, and I certainly do not want your company (or any other) to stop producing figure sets if you cannot make enough money to survive and thrive.

I would be quite happy to pay (reasonably) more money for great figures, but for 48-50 infantry figures in a box (as an example). Otherwise, I would have to consider simply buying multiple boxes to make up for the difference in figure quantity. But the impact of increased shipping costs (to me) would increase also. If then, the cost to have these figures are simply too much then I would put them to the bottom of my order list (it's a long one!) and acquire other sets which contain more figures for a cheaper overall price.

If everyone (or many) feel like me, then the sets with just 30-36 figures per box may end up selling poorly, and the company may not sell as many sets as they expected or want... customer expectations/sentiment could then further impact product sales and reputation...so going back to a chocolate bar story (if anyone is interested in knowing more):

http://money.cnn.com/2016/11/08/news/toblerone-chocolate-shape-change/index.html

P.S Please try to keep your infantry sets to 48-50 figures per box :-)

Re: New Caesar sets

Dear Baratheon,

cost of plastic per se is such a tiny portion in a box's cost, that it's kind of unwise to try to make savings on this.

Best regards,

Strelets

PS Loved your "Post Brexit" Toblerone link, thanks

Re: New Caesar sets

I think cavalry sets should contain more than 16 figures, sometimes they're fewer than that but same price for a 50 figure infantry set. It always bothers me, should be 50 riders and 50 horses

Re: New Caesar sets

Baratheon
Like the shrinking chocolate bar sizes in the UK (but cost prices unchanged!), the number of figures in a box seems to be shrinking too!

This sort of thing is happening across the board where standard quantitys are not the norm, by reducing contents by a small amount companies hide increases in price under the excuse that it Not an increase the price... of course many of use can count despite the crap school system, so we know that less quatity means an increase in Price... its not always as obvious as the iconic Toblerone though and is intended in the end to simply deceive buyers and invariably they reply with complacency... can you imagine what would happen if the electricty companys reduced the volts under the premise of keeping the price the same... or petrol became 0.9 Litres to the litre...

Re: New Caesar sets

Well, I for one was pleasantly surprised to see the Gettysburg U.S. Cavalry box contain two sprews. That's 12 horse riders and 14 dismounted (w/2 bonus figs). Now that's what I call a complete Cavalry set. Not just one trooper hiding behind one dead horse. Yes, yes, yes Strelets!

And for those who want to snivel about what do I do with two bannermen and buglers and binoc guys, I'm going to do head swops with the Imex Mexican-American War Infantry and begin making my U.S. Dragoons.

Further, because I don't paint, I'm going to use my extra Airfix U.S. Cavalry sabres for hand swops to expand my Gettysburg Troopers. Oh, if you want the dead horse pose in the box art picture, the Airfix set has it also.

Thirdly, I have already done head swops with the Airfix Cavalry in kepis with the Strelets Wild West/Indian Wars Cavalry, with those super one-handed carbine poses to expand my Gettysburg Troopers.

With this one set, I'm going to be able to battle the ACW, Mex-Amer War, and Amer-Indian Wars.

BINGO!!! JACKPOT!!! Well done Strelets.

Still, I hope you do a follow-up set of more Gettysburg Cavalry.

Re: New Caesar sets

Well,
about new caesar sets, I think we must not complain about it. Caesar gave us some superb sets, and besides beloved strelets and the slow nowadays Hat, it is the only "long range" company still making new models. There is a problem, yes, I admit it. Too many ww2 German sets. Nothing for the Japs or the Soviets and little about Brits or Americans. No Commonwealth too. It's a pity. And some periods totally neglected (ACW and Napoleonic wars for example).
I hope, caesar will find the old spirit and Hat will stand up again. Thanks God, we have strelets!!!

If we don't complain, nothing will change. There were other nations too that fought in WW2 as well as many other periods in history that they tackled briefly, but eventually abandoned. I'm happy they released some early WW1 French, and I'll probably get that box, but not sure about the Germans - I can't really see tha Pak-36 used together with the StG44, but maybe that's just me.

I really hope they'll release the promised Armies of the Crusades and Muslims they listed for a long time now. I painted up the dismounted crusaders set, and it's really awesome, and have a bunch of other kits in my stash.

Re: New Caesar sets

General hint: Don't complain - just buy Strelets' sets.
The battle for new sets won't be won in discussion but in sales ;-)
Many years ago, I stopped collecting Napoleonics and American Civil War. Because no one delivered sophisticated marching and advancing poses for big batalions.
Strelets now changes everything. So don't hesitate - buy!

Re: New Caesar sets

Look I am on topic.

The Shang dynasty is a huge period to be covered in half a set. Actually from the Crusades to the Seven Years War in reverse in Western terms ie 12th to mid 18th but minus(BCE). The Chou/Zhou dynasty lops off another 800 years but brings you into Sun Tzu territory and needs chariots.
Like the Chin tomb figures there ought to be some variations of human type otherwise a big army looks strange but surely this gets a 5* off the beaten track award.
Therefore
The longest period in the smallest number of warrior figures.
Does this twice
and in one box.
The French are great as I didn't rate the HaT figures highly but the Emhar plus these might cut it. Some French cavalry of this period would complete the early campaigns figures.
The Fallschirmjager figures have a Panzerbüchse 41 not credited on the box so maybe they couldn't spell it. Airfix did a poor one of these about a 1000 years ago in their pre Cambrian WWII German sets.

Re: New Caesar sets

David, fully agree with your point about the latest ancient China set but those of us with an interest in what, here in the West, would be considered "esoteric" have to accept that something is better than nothing - as well as being prepared to get our converting chops on :)

However I've no idea if there is a big market in the Far East for 1/72 plastic figures covering their own history so perhaps that assumption is wrong. Over at Benno's site there are a few Chinese 1/72 contributors who are a wealth of information on Chinese history as well as being talented sculptors and convertors (eg lirui, rayloryan and DollPlayer) http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewforum.php?f=11

Another factor is that conversations and links posted to them can be hampered by the "Great Firewall of China" and their safety has to be protected...

Re: New Caesar sets

Two sets that are not for the thirdreichphiles from Goebbels miniatures - they must be slipping! The other two sets indicate that at least someone in the company has some imagination.

Pity that they cannot follow Strelets example and be consistently original - but unfortunately Nazi products sell!

Re: New Caesar sets

i could put up with a hundred more german sets if they would release there byzantine set thats been listed forever.

Re: New Caesar sets

What's the point with WWII figures in 1/72 anyway? The scale is meant for, or best suited for pre WWI conflicts with massed charges in colorful uniforms. But I guess people buy them anyway.

But that's fecal matter of a bull.

Re: New Caesar sets

I've changed my mind about Fueh..erm..Caesar Miniatures. If churning out hordes of WW2 German sets enable them to occasionally release some of their planned ancient/medieval/renaissance era Chinese figures then I'm all for it.

Snapped up quite a few of their Ming troops and hope they do Song Dynasty infantry one day to go with the lonely Italeri cavalry set.

Well said that man!
