Re: Light Brigade - Massimo

I noticed one Trumpeter Richard Davis who was only 13 years,5 months when he was killed, I thought I had misread so I went over it again.

I wasn't aware that some soldiers were so young

Re: Re: Light Brigade - Massimo

Sorry, I misread afterall. He lived to receive his pension.

trumpeter and women

Dear Patrick

There probably were lads of 13yrs and a trumpeter would probably have to wait until there was a vacancy to get the rank.

Strangely one of my sisters is a Davis by marriage. I haven't gone through the whole list but there would also have been some wives present though of course not in the charge itself. I wonder if his mum was there. A bit like Pike's mum "Don't forget to wear your scarf". The wives were chosen on the seniority of their husband or their maturity. A pretty young wife of a private would get left behind.
See this about another Patrick:

The women were more greatly feared than the enemy.
