Hello can anyone help.?
My dad John Bennett (nickname Chris) after evacuating with the BEF was hospitalised and then sent to Brancepeth camp Durham to join 6 Battalion DLI. Service no 4456616. He arrived there in June 1940.
I have since discovered that he was transferred to the 8 Somerset LI on 7 July 1941. This seems strange - was this part of a larger transfer?
Can anyone offer any clarification? I would also like to hear about any sources which will tell me about Brancepeth camp as it was and also where and what the 8 Somerset LI got up to from July 1941 to the end of the war.
