God's requirement for sins atonement is blood. He accepted the blood of lambs, etc., under The Old Covenant (The Old Testament). The blood of animals could not, however, cleanse a person from within and make them desire the things of God and turn from sin. It required the ultimate sacrifice of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Because Jesus was God's son....and ultimately God Himself for He is one with God, it was GOD'S own blood being shed for the sacrifice for sin. All who believe in Jesus, truly repent for their sins, and ask Him to be Savior and LORD receive Jesus' eternal salvation and The Holy Ghost is placed within each true believer to cause the new birth that Jesus spoke of to Nicodemus in John chapter 3. We are then changed from within to hate sin and desire only the things that be of God. It is a miraculous event. God loved us that much to make a way Himself for us to be eternally saved. There is no greater love than the love of Jesus.
