You can complete a new Form W-4 to submit to your employer claiming an additional exemption for your wife. When you file your tax return for 2008, you can claim an exemption for your wife if you file a separate return if she had no gross US income in 2008. Alternatively, you can elect to file a joint return with your wife if she reports her worldwide income on the return.

In either case, you must apply for an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN)for your wife as part of the return filing process. This is done by submitting Form W-7 and supporting documents with your return.
