Subject:   Form W-8BEN and becoming a Resident Alien
Name:   joshua

Message:   I arrived in the US on a J-1 in late 2006, in April 2008 I changed over to an E-3.

My understanding is that for 2006 and 2007 I was not a resident alien for tax purposes, but for 2008 I will be (I will be in the US for more than 183 days in 2008, on the E-3 Visa).

My questions: I filled out a W-8BEN at my bank and employer when I arrived on my J-1. Now that I am/will this year become, a resident alien for tax purposes, should I immediately fill out whatever form is used by U.S. persons, and cancel the W-8BEN?

Thanks in advance.
